Airfix vintage series 1 nostalgia build.
Twelve models covering 10 different aircraft types, with the aim of showing that these little models don't always come out bad, even straight out the box.

The decals for the Defiant NF1 are looking ropey, so I've sourced a pristine set through auction. Very happy about that! 😎

The canopy was missing from one of the Bf109G-6's. This has been replaced with an original thanks to the generous act of a fellow model maker via spares group page on Facebook 👍

I cut my model building teeth on series 1 Airfix aircraft in the mid 1970's. My first ever kit was the series 1 Bf109G-6 back in 1976 when I was 4 years old.

I hear far too many people bad-mouth these little kits because they don't fall together with a perfect fit and don't have engraved panel lines. It's almost become trendy to do it.

They're series 1 kits. They're all 40+ years old tooling. Sometimes you've got to stop that rivet counting and just enjoy the hobby for what it is with some simple old-school model building.........

One thing these little models taught me back then was that dry fitting and fettling wasn't just about trying the next part before gluing; it could mean 2 or 3 parts at a time, a whole construction stage of a build sheet or more before that glue gets added.

So this project has come about to give them a little love, and hopefully show that they're not all bad, even out-the-box without any aftermarket extras......and that no kit needs to get the hammer treatment and go in the bin.
