Tamiya did a kit of the 850 Wagon ref 24162, the first page of their instructions gives a pretty clear picture of the exhaust. Hope this helps.

Thanks George, I didn't think about looking at other kits. The 850 looks to have a quite different exhaust set up but it was worth having a look.

The UV is only cloudy when you try to look at things 2 cm behind it. This is especially illustrated in the macro shot above. If something is closer it is pretty clear. The photo shows an object in the distance so it's not coming through. I use electrical tape to keep the resin in. Something smoother may give a better result, but I doubt that it would be as good as the clear plastic.

Have you considered polishing the resin (in a mask of course)?

Представляю Вашему вниманию процесс изготовления модели Toyota Supra GT A80 '95 JGTCC Tamiya. Комплект 1995-го года, поэтому, к сожалению не блещет детализацией. Дополнительных проблем доставляет то, что по этому автомобилю мне удалось найти мало детальных фото. По днищу у меня их нет совсем, поэтому снизу доработок не будет. Остались вопросы и по внутреннему интерьеру. Так как ливрея Castrol изобилует элементами, проходщими через дверные срезы, края крышки капота и задней двери, и декаль Тамия довольно толстая, то чтоб убрать ее границы приходиться наносить довольно толстый слой лака. Может я что-то делаю не так, но у меня это приводит к тому, что расшивку заливает лаком, хотя она и дополнительно проработана скрабером. Поэтому я вырезал все двери и крышку капота, хотя я не планирую что-то делать открытым, мне так проще бороться с замыленной расшивкой.

Dear mates, please stick around, I am not too far from the camo painting phase now. But honestly, I am not too worried about that, I have done splinter camo before and it's not as difficult as it may seem. Very time consuming, but pretty straightforward.

Yeah so today, I've buttoned up the top and bottom halves,
Started work on the engines, weapons and cockpit.
Smoked cockpit glass.. hmm nah, ill be making a new one of those, tarting up the guns, and other bits n bobs.
Photos show how much shorter and fatter the Airfix/MPC kit is compared to the correctly proportioned Bandai kit.
That, at the moment I can't fix.

Added the rear sublight engine baffles,
And placed detail to mount the guns, 1/48 T-34 wheels.
Basic body colour almost done. Added some weathering, to make it suitably tired and battered looking.
Can't decide on Squadron colours, or pattern.
I've narrowed it down to, Yellow/Gold, Purple, or Blue...

I built one last year for an old-school Tamiya group build, and it was fun for that. For just about any other purpose, I always end up wondering why people keep building this kit (and its stablemates) in this day and age, let alone why they would spend a ton of money and effort putting lipstick on it … Your reason is about the only other one that makes sense to me 🙂

27-FEB-2026; Sanded and primered the front body part. Sprayed the Gloss Black basecoat for the Titanium Gold final paint. Separated and trimmed the door windows to size and finished up the interior detailing.

To avoid confusion: The paints mentioned are also acrylic paints (which can be dissolved in water, alcohol or solvents; hence the different types).

Roy McKay: You should stop what ever you are working on and start this one, or wait until you need some mojo build. This kit is really good.

I put comparison shot between FineMolds wheel bay and Tamiya one (whole comparison is in my channel Youtube Video ) What do you think about Tamiya decision not to put wire/hose details on the wheel wells at all? In my opinion it is better not to have wires than bad ones, but surely Tamiya could put those on as clearly seen for example on their F-35 (1/48) weapons bay..
