1:72 Speedrun: F4U with droppable tank

Album image #1
Before priming. It's a shame the tank sits too far forward. I followed the marks, but should learn not to blindly trust pre-internet Hasegawa research.

Album image #2
Really happy how the engine turned out. Wash-paint-wash, Vallejo glossy black for the wash, AK Gunmetal grey paint

Album image #3
Needed a bit of filler but mostly fits like a glove, with a bit of pressure and Tamiya ultra-thin

Album image #4
The drop tank is detachable, thanks to magnets hidden inside the airframe. Just like I did with the Harrier

Album image #5
Discovering that a black base layer or 2 would help, as well as mixing my "dark sea gray" to be less green..

Album image #7
End of Day 2. Only needs a bit of satin varnish, weathering, pilot and canopy.

Album image #8
Despite getting into a fight with some decals, I'm pretty happy with how most of it turned out. I did forget to pre-paint the yellow ring on the cowling and had to rush it, which is very visible.

Album image #9
She is quite large next to a Mirage F1

Album image #10
After 2 days and 1 short evening. Pilot is painted and the canopy is on. I did not even need glue for the canopy, it just snaps into place.

Album image #11
The pilot is bot glued either, but attached with a magnet in his torso. He has no legs, so he can be removed from the cockpit too.

Album image #12
With drop tank..

Album image #14
And without.. note the seamless attachment to the belly

Album image #15
Album image #16
I'm thinking I might take some decals and weathering washes with me to "cheat" but this is the result at the deadline. Took about 14-18 hours

Album image #17
At the delivery site, I addes these tiny decals on the gear doors.. and..

Album image #18
A "bit" of weathering on the wings

Album image #19
The grey wash turned out a bit stronger than intended, but better than hardly visible panel lines

I really enjoyed doing a quick build with a deadline and a nice dark uniform paint scheme again. Never thought I'd be able to deliver something like this in just one weekend and a bit! And it motivates me to finish the tough camo on the Belgian Sea King.
Thanks for the likes!
P.S. to be clear, this is not an actual commissioned build but just for a friend who loves the Corsair
