this is the old Monogramm kit with raised panel lines? The one which has the Air Force Refuelling door scribed and not the Navy style?
Looks good, nice colours!

It is the old Monogram F-4J, with raised panel lines. I removed the incorrect refueling door on the dorsal spine and replaced it with the one supplied in the True Details F-4J update kit . Thank you all for your kind words.

Thank you, Christian. All the decals are applied now and I have put on the final clear coat to seal the decals, will let that cure for 24 hrs, then I can start weathering it..

That is a beautiful Phantom Clifford! Those markings are really cool too. I am still working on my F-4C, but a new video game has sucked up most of my extra time.

Well done!

Wow! Nicely done, Clifford! One of the nicest schemes to ever adorn a Marine Phantom. You have done a beautiful job. I am curious how the Fowler decals help up over the years. I have several that I plan on building and am praying that they don't disintegrate. R/ Dutch

Nice job Clifford !! That is one of my favorite Phantom schemes of all time. It is about a tie between this Blue one, and the Red nosed VMFA-235 jet.

Thank you all. @Dutch, the decals held up well, I sprayed them with a couple light coats of clear before I applied them, just to be sure they held together.

Clear what? Lacquer or decal film?
21 December 2016, 01:39
Clifford Keesler
It was Testors gloss coat, so I think that is a lacquer, I just used misty coats, 2 I think. Did not soak the decals. I believe Testors also makes a spray decal film that will do the same thing.

impressive build 🙂
i have the very same kit in my stash, so i'd like to seek your opinion and advice about this kit, should I prepare myself for lengthy build with too much filling and sanding or I can get it done over the weekend ?
28 December 2016, 17:38
Clifford Keesler
I do not think you could get it done over a weekend. With mine it took about 3 weeks, and that was working 1/2 day every day during the week, but none on the weekends. There was not a lot of filling required though.

Thank you : ) appreciated, then I'll push the build further a bit since I'm more into quicker builds now due to time limitations. I loved you Phantom

3 weeks??? That's even more impressive. This is not the easiest kit to build and most end up on the shelf of doom. (mine did for years!)

Excellent work Clifford! Nice job on the interior. Such a classic kit.

Such a classic a/c that you have paid great homage to. I have a 1/32 on the wish-list, and I have saved some of your pics for future reference 🙂

Thank you Dave, I am flattered. I need to get another one and do the VMFA-235 markings, 2 very colorful Rhino,s.

yeah, the Red on the Death Angels would look really good sitting next to the Warlord's Blue trim

Album info

Revell 1/48 F-4J . Modified using True Details F-4J update set. Which includes new resin cockpit side walls, resin air scoops and correct resin wheels. I used the Hasegawa F-4J PE cockpit set from Eduard. This worked perfectly, with no fit issues. Decals came from a Hasegawa F-4J sheet.
