Danke Freunde.

Thank you for your kind comments.
@John: Ja, die Instrumententafeln und Seitenkonsolen sind von Eduard. Sie liegen dem Bausatz (Limited Edition) bereits bei. Ebenso die Schubdüsen.

Thank you mates. The next step is to do the weathering - not too much. Because in this paintwork the F-4 flew only 1976 and 1977.

Hello Dutch and all mates who are following this article. I have to tell you that i have ruined my Phantom and i'm very disappointed.

After decaling I sprayed a coat of glossy Gunze H-30. But there appeared some strange patches. So I decided to spray a coat of Future - and the patches were gone. But i didn't wait until H-30 was dry (DON'T DO THIS) - I'm such an idiot.

After Future was dry eveything looked good. Then I made a washing with diluted black oil paint. After I wiped off the oil paint a saw the disaster. The oil paint run in thousands of small cracks. See the pictures.

I think there is no way to repair this ultimate MCA (o.k. it's nothing against Tschernobyl). Now I stopped building the Phantom.

Hallo Stefan, das tut mir sehr leid zu lesen, das wäre eine supergeile Maschine geworden!

Since the top coat is Future, have you tried to remove the oil wash with white spirit? White spirit should NOT attack the Future, but should remove the oil wash (please try first on something besides the model!). I have had paint crack like that once or twice, and I think it was always due to the paint underneath not being completely cured yet. In the USA where I am, we call white spirit "mineral spirits."

Such a beautiful build and then such a pity due to paint reactions. I can feel with you

Hi Stefan, I'm sorry to hear about that problem. But as Bill mentioned, you should give it a try. May you put the F4 beside for a while and start to repair it later.

Any idea what happened? Was it the same paint and varnish you usually use? I know from some fellow modellers and from my own experience about problems with gloss or matt coats. Maybe the gloss you need was to old?

To avoid and mishaps I lay my already painted models aside for a while before I add first a wash and decals second and since I work with Vallejo colours I only use Windsor&Newton varnishes to seal my models.

Not that big support but to let you know I fell with you!
Cheers, Christian

I have had problems with clear coats lately also. Seems every time I apply them, they take the paint right off. I had to re-paint my F-4J I am working on because when I applied the gloss coat it took the paint off, and I used the same stuff I have always used. It has happened on several of my recent builds. I am sorry to hear you had the same problem.
