Modeling since 1955...the usually mix for American boys of the era. In 1964 I switched to1:72 a/c kits with vacuforms and scratch conversions soon dominating my collections. In 2001 I returned to1:32 Highway Pioneers antique car collection and 1:16 wood; card & plastic cars. I write articles - first published in 1969 and published much on www since 1996. Happy modeling!
I am also an artist and researcher with a very good appreciation of production, modification, logistics and weapons system program management. I developed my style of building with all those influences at play.
I am an old school builder. No photo etched parts, rarely resin and hardly ever CA. Sheet styrene and stretched sprue are my stock and trade. I surface with auto putty but fill with plastic.
I like MATCHBOX kits and respect FROG kits. I own very few oriental kits and have build few of what I own. I do extensive re-kitting by kit bashing, and scratch conversions. I was among the first of the vacuform builders and enjoy the medium. I feel it changes one's eye and skills in a way that enhances the ability to see and define shapes; and blend a level of detail commensurate with the overall visual rendering.
I usually select my own subjects and do my own research. Dozens of my builds have subsequently been pirated by decal companies and have inspired resin kits.
I am anxious to see the effects of 3D printing on the hobby as its access broadens. In 2016, 3D printing is a reality among some custom car builders I follow.
