Thanks for sharing your photos, Arne! I hope you had a good time there! 👍 🙂 It's still a beautiful museum that has a number of quite interesting objects. Everyone should visit it at least once, I think 😄

Hi Arne, thanks for posting these shots! What type of tank is the one on the first pics, looks like a russian one (IS2)?

@John Yes, you are right. I will visit it a second time in 2 weeks.
@coporado Hi Sasha, I´m not familiar with russian tanks, but I will ask someone, who is familiar with them.

Nice pics, Arne, thx. for sharing.
@coporado, I do think it is an IS-2. IS-1 had the 85mm gun without muzzle break that was later given to the T-34/85.
IS-2 got the A-19 122mm gun and some got the 100mm BS-3. Don't know clearly which one we see here but for sure not the 85mm.

hmmm strange to find an IS2 in the Netherlands

It is definitely an IS-2, stripped of all it's exterior attributes, with a 122mm gun.

I know for sure because Overloon is pretty much home base for the armor enthusiasts club I'm a member of (TWENOT) 🙂

They have a T-34/85 as well. I think both Russian tanks came from the former (Dutch) Marshall Museum collection which was merged into the Overloon collection a number of years ago.

On March 26th and 27th, 2016 the TWENOT, which is short for "Tweede Nederlandse Organisatie van Tankhobbyisten / Second Dutch Organisation of Tank Hobbyists", will celebrate its 40th anniversary. Guess where the festivities will take place 😄

I personally don't think it's strange to find Russian Armor in a War Museum. I think it's actually quite cool they don't just focus on what happened on the Western Front 🙂

@John
Thanks for the background informations.

@coporado
It is no tank museum only for the western front. 😉 The most of the tanks are from the western front, but not all.
