MH-60T Jayhawk Build Progress

Cockpit and cabin detailing. The radio stack was a tough one to get right with all the PE parts, and there are all sorts of flaws in it, but I’m hoping those are easily seen when the interior comes together more.

The KH kit is lacking a lot of detail in the cabin interior, so I’ve had to scratch build the jump seats with masking tape and some extra pieces of polystyrene. I ended up scrapping the PE seatbelts and opting for the Kelik 3D seat decals. I’m less than thrilled with how delicate those are, but they still look a lot better than my attempts at shaping PE.

I’ve got a lot of respect for all of you that can paint figures with consistent results!

In all the research I’ve done, I’ve found that the crew really loads up the interior with gear. I wanted to depict that with this build.

A bit of artistic license by including the decal on the interior ceiling, though I’ve seen photos of a Jayhawk out of Cape Cod that had it there.

Deciding on what goes where and how it all fits. Slow progress, lately.

Set the far cabin wall and started testing out equipment placement.

Some DIY decals for the trauma bags. I’m not sure yet if I’m going to put this in the Jayhawk or save it for a Pavehawk, but it’s the little details that make the difference.

Dry fitting the cabin and ICS cables.

I may strip this and give it another go in black, with white decals/lettering, so it’s a closer match to the trauma bags I’ve seen in USCG birds. But happy with how the decals turned out, nonetheless.

Reedoak figure — flight mechanic on fire watch — with a Live Resin head. This was my first go with glazing and figure painting. Very thankful for 000 brushes, the wet palette, and YouTube. I didn’t have any of these things 30 years ago (nor the patience), and it felt like this turned out pretty ok.

Still some subtle work to do on the pilots but the cockpit and cabin are coming together.

Some dry fit checks before securing the final interior walls in the cabin. I should have done this on one of the interior walls prior to gluing it down but I didn’t think through the best strategy for a tight fit. So is life with the Kitty Hawk instructions.

Thanks! I haven't touched a kit in 30 years and it's been *slow* going with this one. The KH instructions are… rough.

Thanks all! It really has been 30 years. There's a nice feeling in re-approaching the hobby now and being able to afford the tools and kits you wished you'd had as a kid.

Thanks Carlos. Live Resin, Reedoak, and Def Models did a lot of the heavy lifting here with their fantastic resin casts. Those figures practically paint themselves!

Thanks John. I've got limited time between work and family commitments, I'm sure like a lot of us. I've found that I really have to rely on those lists to make the most of the time I get to work on this project. 😂
