Like it. Started that one a few monthe ago with a small dio in mind. Turned out to be not as quick a build as I had hoped and sits not on the shelve of shame waiting for another gust of motivation on my part. 😉

Really nice model and story behind it (I know this kit and its vices 😉 - one addition to your trivia fact is that Lindberg was the first to fly solo over the Atlantic eastwards).

Album info

This one is very special to me since my fiancée joined in the building process. She chose the project actually. She has always been fascinated by Golden Age subjects. We love reading golden age accounts together, and decided we wanted a Ryan NYP replica in 1/48. You don't see to many of these modeled huh? We modeled it as though it had just finished its goodwill tour.

We used Mr. Color's aluminum paint for the fabric, with a decanted Testors dull coat. The real thing didn't have glossy fabric by any means. For the cowl, we used the kit's decals. We used Alclad gloss to cover that. We scratch built the fuel cap vents using 0.3mm brass rod. Happy it's done. Excited for the next project! ?

Some fun trivia:

-Ryan NYP was based off of the Ryan M-2.
-Lindbergh was NOT the first man to fly across the Atlantic. I'm not sure why Alcock and Brown are all but forgotten. They first crossed in a Vickers Vimy. With that said, Lindbergh was the first to fly solo across the Atlantic. His feat, according to Bob Hoover, is commensurate to the accomplishment of Apollo 11.
-The Ryan NYP originally had a jeweled prop hub. It was later replaced with one that wasn't, as shown with my model.
-Two other people are known to have flown the Ryan NYP, Thomas George Lamphier Sr., Philip R. Love.
-The original is on display at the Smithsonian.
-Numerous airworthy replicas have been made, but the most accurate of them all is a reproduction that can be found at Rhinebeck. Its registration is N211XC.
