With this kit I decided to try something really new. I am going to build an Ohio ARNG bird with paint that has metal pigment from Vallejo. My initial tests look very sharp and I am really excited to see it complete. I went with a aircraft grey for 95% of the aircraft and a very bright blue for the tail. The decals appear to be in poor shape due to age and cracking and I know the black runners are doa. I just hope the other decals aren't the same way otherwise I will have to order new decals.

This kit was a test bed for me with paint. I did all my own mixing and attempted to give all the surfaces a metallic sheen. I used a product from Vallejo that mixes into your paint to achieve this. I felt the paint test worked out ok and I think I like it overall. Not sure long term on using it as a standard. I also tested a new way to do masking on canopies. I put tape over the canopy and used an knife to cut away the excess. Tricky work but on the test I did it looks good. Decals however were a total disaster, I was only able to salvage a few decals from the sheet. Sad considering the sheet was dated 2001 and the decals I choose to replace with were printed in the 1980's and 1990's. I gave up trying to do a historical replica and just went with what I thought looked good.
