Airfix History of the Swedish Air Force Present Set

Album image #1
The Box Art is cut-outs of the latest box artwork of the models. It does a fair job at setting them all into a pretty neat context. Most likely, the box itself will be used as a display stand but I may also frame it. It all depends on how I will showcase the finished project.

The decal sheet also contains foreign options. I was a bit surprised by that honestly.

The Bulldog served in the Swedish Air Force from the twenties to the late thirties. Two were donated to Finland and used in the Winter War.

The Airfix kit tool dates back to 1969.

The J 26 Mustang was a post-war purchase from the USAF and we got quite a few of them too. They saw service until 1953 when they started to be replaced by jet fighters such as the Tunnan and the Lansen.

The Airfix kit tool dates from 1974 but the Swedish Decal Set and Box, famous to my generation of Swedish Boys as Gul Kalle was published as recent as 1991!

The J 30 Mosquito was our first radar equipped night fighter but suffered from a large accident rate. The radars would come to be employed in the J 33 Venom instead.

The Airfix Kit Tool got new parts in 1995 but dates back to 1972.

The Draken was a mainstay of Swedish Cold War deterrence and served from the late fifties to the late nineties. A pure interceptor; it was progressively updated with five different models and exported to three countries.

The Airfix Kit Tool is the classic from 1971!

The Helikopter 4 Vertol became famous hunting Soviet Submarines in the 1980s and different sea rescue operations; most famously the Estonia in 1994. We operated 22 of them suffering two accidents. They would serve until 2011.

The Airfix Kit Tool was released with very cool box art in 1965.

The Saab 37 Viggen first flew in the early seventies and would last until 2005. A precursor to the JAS Program, it could preform attack, fighter and recon missions but required different adjustments for each role.

The Airfix Kit Tool is based on the 1971 Classic Kit of the prototype airplane.

The JAS 39 Gripen is the main Swedish Fighter up until this day and it first saw service in 1996. The A model was built to Swedish accommodations and have a few differences compared to the NATO Compliant C-version.

The Airfix Kit Tool was first released as Italeri in 2000s and has been released as Tamyia, Revell and Airfix. This Present Set was the first time it would appear under the Airfix brand.
