![Album image #1 Album image #1](/albums/img/2/8/5/1297285-27411-23-720.jpg)
Basic interior painted and given a brown wash to pick out details
![Album image #2 Album image #2](/albums/img/2/8/7/1297287-27411-36-720.jpg)
Fuselage halves glued together. The lower wing includes the rear of the radiator, which is blank styrene. I painted in black and cut a piece of fine mesh to glue onto it.
![Album image #3 Album image #3](/albums/img/2/8/6/1297286-27411-42-720.jpg)
Lower wing glued in place , showing the back face of the radiator - simple fix but looks much better than the flat styrene wall
![Album image #4 Album image #4](/albums/img/2/9/0/1297290-27411-90-720.jpg)
Engine cover and front face glued in place
![Album image #5 Album image #5](/albums/img/2/8/8/1297288-27411-51-720.jpg)
Tail surfaces glued on - a fair amount of filler needed, but not so bad for a limited run kit
![Album image #6 Album image #6](/albums/img/2/8/9/1297289-27411-72-720.jpg)
Top view - not as much filled needed here
![Album image #7 Album image #7](/albums/img/6/5/7/1297657-27411-21-720.jpg)
Landing gear glued in place
![Album image #8 Album image #8](/albums/img/6/5/8/1297658-27411-49-720.jpg)
Propeller blades glued to spinner using a jig
![Album image #9 Album image #9](/albums/img/2/4/7/1298247-27411-86-720.jpg)
Struts attached to upper and lower wings to (hopefully) make fitting the upper wing easier. Also drilled out the gun troughs to make them look better
![Album image #10 Album image #10](/albums/img/5/0/4/1298504-27411-73-720.jpg)
Model in Aeroclub bi-plane jig, showing the fit issues with the N-struts
![Album image #11 Album image #11](/albums/img/5/0/5/1298505-27411-18-720.jpg)
The front strut for the wing Ns and the rear strut for the centre section Ns do not fit and will need to be modified
![Album image #12 Album image #12](/albums/img/3/3/4/1299334-27411-45-720.jpg)
Wing struts were the right length, just the wrong angle - I cut a slot with a razor saw at the bottom of the front strut and inserted a wedge of scrap styrene which moved the top inwards. The piece of scrap will be trimmed and sanded when the glue dries
![Album image #13 Album image #13](/albums/img/1/6/2/1300162-27411-12-720.jpg)
Rear centre section struts extended by gluing a section of appropriately sized contrail strut to the end and after it was dry, filled gaps and sanded to shape
![Album image #14 Album image #14](/albums/img/5/2/4/1301524-27411-17-720.jpg)
Cut some home-made masks and stuck them on either side of the film windshield - now to cut it out and
![Album image #15 Album image #15](/albums/img/5/2/5/1301525-27411-88-720.jpg)
Windscreen trimmed, hole drilled for gun sight, folded and glued in place
![Album image #16 Album image #16](/albums/img/0/6/9/1302069-27411-87-720.jpg)
Late in the day - decided to use the spats - here the insides of the spats have been ground out to allow the wheels to fit and the wheels and interiors have been painted and weathered
![Album image #17 Album image #17](/albums/img/0/7/0/1302070-27411-88-720.jpg)
Spats glued together, filled and sanded

Detail painting done and spats attached
![Album image #20 Album image #20](/albums/img/1/3/5/1303135-27411-17-720.jpg)
Elastic rigging thread glued to fuselage and lower wing, ready to pass through holes in the top wing. I've also replaced the aileron control rods with steel wire, which will also be fixed by gluing into holes in the underside of the top wing
![Album image #21 Album image #21](/albums/img/4/3/8/1615438-27411-26-720.jpg)

OOOOOoooo! A new Uwe Tintin build! Sign me up! I also did this one for my Tintin project, and used the same logic to arrive at the Ki-10 as the kit to use. Not sure if you're aware or not, but even though the 3 planes are only tiny silhouettes in the album itself, they do appear on the cover of the May 16, 1933 edition of le petit vingtième (n° 20). [img1] - in case you're thinking about a reference for the paint scheme.

Thanks Greg. Yes, it was your build that gave me the idea of the Ki-10. I hadn't seen the cover but it was mentioned in one of the Blue Rider books, along with the idea that they are Hawker Harts/Demons... The markings are provided in the BR Tintin Part 7 decal set and I'm still making up my mind about whether to use those decals, kit decals, or maybe a combination of both?

Got to the first major issue with this kit - the wing struts don't fit! I found that the front strut of the main wing N-struts does not fit and will need to repositioned and lengthened a bit and the rear strut of the centre section n-struts need to be lengthened.

Welcome guys - I've now started on modifying the struts (wing struts first as they are the easiest)

Thanks everybody - had some fun making masks for the windscreen (it's tiny!) but got it done and now waiting for the glue to dry

Finally got back to this one - top wing on (the strut mods worked!) and rigging completed. Nearing the end.

I've built this kit twice now... neither one looks as good as this. Very nice work!

Thanks Greg - high praise. Decals are on, a mixture of kit decals plus the tail decal from the Blue Rider Tintin set, which fits OK if you're not worried about just covering the rudder...

Yeah - worked on the theory that Herge loved putting spats on things that never had them, so why not use them on a plane that actually did have them?

Very nice job, Uwe.
Congrats!
I would also like to put spats in my future Ki-10.

Album info
There are a couple of panels in "The Blue Lotus" showing some Japanese aircraft. They are seen as silhouettes in the distance but are clearly single bay, sesquiplane biplanes. The book is set in 1931 but written in 1935 so it could feasibly be a Kawasaki Ki-10, which was introduced in 1935 and the silhouettes do have the splayed-out struts and look of the Ki-10. I've therefore chosen to depict the planes as an early Ki-10-I and am building the Avis kit, pretty well straight out of the box.
