Couldn't pass up a $5 kit at Big Lots - maybe should have.
1. Built OOB PA ANG. Rivet counters will notice that the paint scheme is historically inaccurate for this aircraft, however it is accurate for late in the C-97's career and I love the late 70's scheme. My reference was a CA ANG bird from 1975. Masked up and sprayed the black "cheat" line.
2. Ultimately gave up trying to install the landing gear resulting in a big gate guard.
3. Decals (Cartograph) ended up being trash with sections of each decal remaining firmly attached to the backer after long soakings. Ended up dousing a brush in water, running it under the film that did release, and the carefully jabbing the wet brush into the part where the film and backer were attached. In some cases, parts of the backer paper came off on the film. As I was at wits end, I installed the offensive decals anyway.
4. The fit was horrific - especially the engine nacelles. Had my first experience with Milliput (not by choice) as my weapon of choice in the battle of the gaps.
5. Came within a vodka/tonic of trashing this kit.
