Custom lozenges designed in Photoshop and printed on decal paper using a colour laser printer. I used a scanned copy of WNW lozenges and then changed the colours to suit. NOTE: multiple printing scenarios using "Photoshop print management"...

This gives you a better idea of the actual colour of the lozenges. Microset and Microsol used to soften and adhere decal.

This shows all of the finished components before coating with clear coat. It also shows off the custom decals and lozenges that I made using Photoshop. Others were directly used from the WNW kit.

This was my first attempt the create a laminated look. I used a technique where I sprayed the propeller with a white primer coat which gave it a bit of a rough surface where I could then use watercolor (Faber Castell) pencils to create the wood grain. I then coated it with a coat of Tamiya clear gloss XF-22/XF-24 (50/50). I then applied the decals and put a light coat of Tamiya XF-26 (Clear Orange).

Here is a close-up view of the exhaust. I'm quite proud of the texture I created. I used Mr. Metal Color MC-212 iron, which I buffed until it was shinny (NOTE: Mr. Metal Color is the only paint I know that you can buff to a shinny metal finish). Then using a small piece of sponge I dabbed Vallejo 71.080 rust followed by Tamiya X-23 clear blue to get the used exhaust look. I think it turned out quite well 🙂

I actually traced the contours using craft paper, then scanned it into Photoshop (note: I should add some images of this). Using the contour feature (not sure if this is the exact term) in Photoshop, I then created the pattern in the same brown colour used for the cockpit and created my own decal. It worked fairly well, but in hindsight I would have cut the decals a little wider since they were so thin that I had a hard time making them adhere to the fuselage. Lots of fun!

I am converting the WNW Albatros D.V "Wooden Wonders" to the Ludwig Weber (Lulu) version.

I'm trying some new (to me) techniques including (i) using the HGW Decal set (#532008) for the fuselage wood grain and (ii) using photoshop to create the lozenges for the wing and tail.
