I can recommend Tamiya's masking tape. Fairly reliable. If the adhesive is too strong, if fearing the paint might chip off, you can place the tape on your hand, and reduce the adhesiveness, repeat until you are happy with it.

With a brush, you will want to avoid paint pooling agains the tape, so thin repeated flat strokes with paint is afaik better than trying to put it on too heavily. If paint is too heavy against the masking tape, the edge of the paint gets a raised edge.

Really nice to see kits coming with a pilot figure inside.

Thank you so much for the advice! I finished that model quite a while ago now. I have since acquired Tamiya masking tape and when I need to in the future, your advice will surely come in very helpful. It was certainly very difficult to get straight edges with just the supplied paintbrush.

For such a cheap starter model, it was surprisingly good in the interior, although overall I found the model didn't go together too well, and the overall shape is a bit warped. Although that could be something I did wrong, as it was my first ever model.

One day in the future, when my skills have hopefully improved a lot, I'd love to come back and do another Spitfire and compare them to see how far I've come!
