1/72 Scale Eduard Rigging Test

Album image #1
....the testing will use this partially completed kit (with some random drilled out spots) and the Eduard 1/72 scale Wires and Stretchers.....

Album image #2
....these Eduard pieces are available in at least three scales...this is the smallest...

Album image #3
....every connection for rigging this kit is made here using these connections...sometimes the flat pieces at the base of struts and others are the turnbuckles for wires....

Album image #4
....easy to see how this works here.....these are the turnbuckles for right under the wing center.....simple to install and very simple to adjust once installed .....use slow CA!!....much easier...

Album image #5
....the actual Eduard little eyelets in 1/72 are very, very small....but, cutting up turnbuckles makes a good substitute.....

Album image #6
....these flat pieces for the base of struts, which can take EZLine or a wire, are the best part of the Eduard package...very easy to install and scale accurate....i wish there were more of these in each package.....

.....expect no great result folks...this is all about testing....

Album image #7
...off it goes into rigging....

Album image #8
.....and here it is all done in a few hours.....I do like the fact the turnbuckles and etc can be bent into alignment...it works well...

Just came across this. Thank you for sharing, it is a great intro into how these turnbuckles work.

That's it, Lochsa, you've got me persuaded. Your tests worked well. Very nice results. Any tips on threading the tiny pieces, and fixing the rigging line?

Album info

...like it says....a test of Eduard brand rigging methods

.....this is actually a 2006 ICM kit with Hasegawa repackaging.......both are a bit rough and not anything special in todays world....so, despite a couple of false starts with other rigging methods such as drilling, the decision was to make this a test bed for the Eduard Wire Stretchers and Control horns for rigging.....

...It was all done with no drilling, just CA glue.....these Eduard pieces are flexible once installed, compared to the Gaspatch resin and metal pieces, which either don't move or break if stressed....just not as accurate with little pads the pieces attach with out of scale.....there are for sure times Gaspatch would be more accurate and, in fact, once fully rigged with this method, all the correct angles would be there for drilling a second kit for the Gaspatch pieces.....

.....these Eduard PE pieces are from 2004 and could use some updating. The very cool pads for the base of struts that Gaspatch has no answer for (see photos) are only enough for one or two kits, while the control horns might last a lifetime!
