Jim JThis one caught my attention and jumped to the top of my build queue. Eduard just released this Fw 190F-8 kit and I've wanted to do the winter wave mirror version for a while. I've seen this plane rendered with a red cowl and numbers, but Eduard states the markings should be blue. So I'm going with it. The office is complete.

Nathan DempseyDefinitely an interesting subject for a Fw190. I think the cowl will look good in blue. Great start on the cockpit!

By the way, I learned more of the backstory behind the blue vs red cowl drama on this plane. Eduard's May edition of Info on their website contains an interesting article on the F-8. It says that the Luftwaffe loss reports during winter 1944/45 state that the markings for Stab I./SG 2 were blue. Eduard must have come across new info during their research. Blue seems more believable than the red markings of earlier kits and profiles anyway, especially considering the red-nosed Soviet planes all over the place!

Nathan DempseyDefinitely an interesting subject! The overall wear & the dents on the spinner, plus those different numbers on the cowl & gun bay hatch. Of course the modified landing gear too. I didn't think I needed another Fw190 kit, but maybe one more is ok ?.

Jim JI've been traveling for the last couple of weeks, but finally made some progress. The build was straightforward with no major issues. The yellow chin and band were painted first and masked, followed by the blue cowling. Then I painted a standard 74,75,76 camo scheme with appropriate mottles. I masked the areas where the wing top crosses and tail markings would be applied and painted on the winter camo. I used the Eduard instructions and the plane photos as guides. The crosses and the blue 2 were all painted with masks I found in my spares kit. Mr. Color lacquers were the main paints used. Now it's on the the gloss coat, decals, etc.

Jim JThe Winter Würger is now complete. Overall, it's a very nice kit to build with no major issues. I'm really happy with the camo and marking scheme. Thanks for following along.

Jim JThanks Guillaume! I used a Flory wash for the panel lines - lighter gray for the underside and medium gray for the topside. For selected panel lines around control surfaces and engine panels, I sprayed a very thin brown/black mix to reflect dirt, grime and oil. I also brushed some of this on the wing root areas and landing gear, referencing photos of the plane. For the exhaust, I slowly built up the effect with brown, black, gray and tan paint followed by some light pastels brushed on. I used colored pencils for the paint chips and scratches - dark green, gray, white, silver and brown depending on the area. The final matte finish was Model Master Flat Clear Lacquer - 3 light coats. I buffed and sanded the surface with 8000 and 12000 micro mesh pads to get the final smooth finish. Hope that helps. Thanks again.
