Ferry DierckxsensVery nice and well done. Subject which intrest me. I think you have managed to "break the color down" to get the used and faded look of this type of trucks. Next to a wash I have some good experience by using pastel powders in different shades as well. Using the grey colours in the pastel powders to soften the bright colours like red or blue. For me also a learning curve and used it to good effect on a 1:72 scale Ural truck in the typical Blue colour. Still have to post some pics of that one.

Ferry: I used some pastels (PanPastels to be exact) on the tires to get the worn out look and also chassis for some rust effects. While they create a great effect, they do not stay on the model if you touch it. Do you have any tricks to get them stick better? I know railroad modelers (that's where I have the PanPastel idea from) spray a lot of matte varnish and rub the pastels in it and spray again, but when I try it, it just removes the powder and undoes the effect I just made 🙁

Alec KI think this turned out great David! I think the overall feel is very good. Not sure I have any advice on the pastels, as I never used this medium myself. Regarding the back lights: maybe painting the back of them silver/chrome would work? Just a thought... Again, very nice job 👍

Bart: That's what I was trying to replicate, so based on your comment, I'd say partial success - partial, because I still know about a few things that do not seem right to my eye.
Alec: I think I have a spare clear part somewhere, so I will try the silver/chrome, maybe white undercoat and see what it is going to do.
Ferry DierckxsensHello David. The pastels I use are "Rembrandt" yes like the famous painter.... I buy them in a local art shop. For use I take a piece of abrasive paper and make a few little lines with the pastel. A very fine dust remains and this is picked up with a brush witch is rather stiff. Normaly used for watercolours etc. The Rembrandt pastel are quite fat and sticky and stick pretty good on the painted surface. So maybe that could make a difference. Working with matt varnish as an overspray after the pastels are added has not worked yet for me, so will try the tip from Markus as well. Thanks for that Markus.
Also for the rear lights, I agree with Alec. I've used small pieces of bare metal foil or silver paint, dependable on what is possible with the lights and the base you have to fix your transparent part on. Specialy with the bare metal foil (chrome) and the transparent colours used, you get a very nice colour effect like the "real thing"

The kit is very good. Lots of parts. Lots of small parts too. Very good fit, no flash. I do not remember any ejector pins that I would have to fix. I did use some putty, but I was my fault.
The build took me much longer than I anticipated. When I mixed my green, which I wanted to be really faded pale green, it turned in something I would call "circus green". I do not have a picture - it would break your screen. It was that bad. So, that put me off for a few weeks when I was contemplating what to do. I bumped into several picture of fire truck, but only one was GAZ-66 and it looked like somebody was messing around. However, good idea, so I looked at the patterns used and came up with this. I thought I did not want another green truck, so lets' try this for a change, because airbrushing red is easy, eh?
Weathering: I wanted to try that heavier weathered look. The model looks a bit cleaner on the pictures than in real life. I did use black/blackish wash a lot and I still cannot get the feeling of "somebody sp
