Using Alcad Paints?

Torben, You will really enjoy this kit. I built the "S" when it first came out, the detail is something else. 🙂
Mine was OOB, no after market.

I will be following this build with much interest.

Will you be doing the carbon fibre decals as well ?
23 May 2015, 09:18
Torben H.
Thank you all for your kind annotations.
Donald, I used Alclad Aluminium vor the main engine body, the rest are Tamiya colos as suggested in the instructions.
Kerry, thanks to Norman Gruss I have a Hobby Design carbon decal sheet lying on my bench. Will cover the front fender with it and I bet I'll need loads of softener for the job.

I saw where Alcad paints has it's own web page and they have a gallery of projects that guys have done with Alcad. Very Cool Page!

Torben, I like the way the metal effect paints you have used have turned out.😉
Did you use ALL those extra PE engine parts. ?:-\
The final result will be an interesting view. 🙂
Was the chain assembly done on a 'jig' or was it freehand and link by link. ? ;.|
The drilling of the disks is quite well done, and how did the front fender with the carbon fibre decal turn out. ? 🙂
But looking good so far. 👍.

Thank you Donald, much appreciated!
Kerry, how are you, mate? You caught me icecold here, I'm still running away from that front fender decaling-drama. Had a first try two weeks ago, but the decal stripes I've cut from the sheet won't really stick to the surface, even after use of softener and a whole night of drying time. I could peel it off like cigarette paper from a window. The decals are from Hobby Design and a bit thick for my taste. Most of the engine PE-parts were used for that tiny electronic box, nearly the rest is pure Tamiya plastics. The chain assembly was done on the edge of some cardboard to level out the overlap of the pins and prevent them from jumping out of their links. Also a small glass plate and some Tamiya tape was used. Thank you both for your interest. Next UD coming soon.

Torben, I am well and thanks for asking mate. 🙂
'Top Studio' carbon fibre is what I used for mine Torben, and turns to almost slime (yes, SLIME) by the time it is ready to me coaxed into place with a soft tipped brush. 🙂
The quality of your work is truly admirable mate, just beautifully done. 👍 👍 🙂

Torben could under coating with a surface like a pledge surface r' help. Just guessing here now.🙂

Yes I worked as a Janitor, not proud of it but learned a few things along the way and was that the floor was porous and had to stripped, then sealed before applying wax, well believe it or not plastic is porous and a sealer probably needs to be applied, in that way you'ed have more surface for the decal to adhere to. What do yah think?

Hi Donald, thanks for your support. I forgot to mention that I primed the fender with Gunze Black Primer before decaling. I'll try another decal brand because mine are way to thick so my softener gave up. I've tried with laquer thinner but it was too strong and the decal melted. 'TopStudio'-decals are hard to get atm, can someone give a recommendation?

Guess I was talking about a commercial sealer, like Johnson and Johnson or something like it LOL.🙂

So, what happened to the Carbon Fibre ?

Thank you, Mike!
Kerry, I'm blushing in front of my screen right now. I've stripped the third attempt of decaling that *#% front fender a few days ago. It's covered with Future again and I'll try it now with really small strips of foil that hopefully can't buckle, twist, fold or do any other annoying s**t.

I am really impressed with the overall look of this most amazing kit mate, and as for the CF decals, I had a hell of a time and went through more of the stuff I care to say.

Very well done my friend. 🙂

Cover parts are painted and drying atm. Think I'll finish her within one week. Love it to be on the homestretch...

some superb work here ! 🙂
one thought regarding the brake discs, they need to have those circular grooves/grain that they get from being rubbed by the brake pads, perhaps this thought is too late or too small a consideration. Certainly doesn't let the model down at all but would be a nice touch, hope you don't mind me saying so though 😄
4 October 2015, 18:25
Torben H.
Thanks for your input, Choppa. In the beginning I planned to give the tires a bit wear and tear, but then I was too chicken-hearted to mount the wheels in my Proxxon tool, because I didn't want to ruin the glossy painted rims.
And now, after the tires look like brand new, I have to stay on my "exhibit style". Most of these bikes were acquired by collectors, so maybe I'm not so far away from the sad truth... 🙂
4 October 2015, 18:33
Choppa Nutta
haha, maybe 🙂 great work though.
I wasn't referring to the tyres but the brake discs themselves but now you mention it the tyres would look cool with some slight road wear too😉
But I can understand your hesitation though but rather than use a machine to help do it perhaps a gentle sanding by hand might work ?
4 October 2015, 19:02
Torben H.
Would like to have that effect, but the whole bike is so d**m fragile. My hands are shaking while just thinking about it.

haha don't blame you 😄

The over all impression you have created here is spectacular, and something a top executive would proudly have on his desk if he was a Ducati salesman.
Nicely done Torben. 🙂

She's nearly done now. Only rear mirrors are missing. Will go in the basement now to catch my photo tent. I love those 'finishing days'!

Thank you Kerry, though I quit on the decals for the front fender. Had to strip them off four times, after that I said *#@ it and made it glossy. 🙂
Added the gallery pics for your viewing pleasure.

Absolutely gorgeous build, few quids worth of detail parts on there which are way out of my price range, I love the tip about using wire for the brake lines etc, what kind of wire do you use?

Outstanding Torben!
22 December 2015, 12:34

Thank you, Kari. Much appreciated!
Terry, in the end the set was worth the effort, though it more than doubled the price of the kit. I used aluminium wire I took out of a cable. Its flexibility lies somewhere between lead and copper and works very well for this task.
Thanks for your encouraging words, mate!

The real ones had carbon fibre mud guards front and back.

Ok, ok, I confess, I'm a carbon abusing sinner! I'm prepared for an Australian birching.
23 December 2015, 01:29

@ kerry, the Tamiya one I am building shows carbon fibre in the box art but does not provide any decals for this
23 December 2015, 01:35
Kerry COX
No criticism Torben, as I do remember you had an attempt and it didn't work out, but what is here is superb mate. 🙂
23 December 2015, 02:37

Terry, the carbon fibre decals can be obtained from all hobby shops, and it is tricky to use, so see what is on offer . 👍

I tend to build out of the box unless it is a special build and I am aware of aftermarket options, not everyone has that kind of budget though, especially me lol
