Dornier Do-ing it slowly
great internal detail abounds
warping issues along the bomb-bay
decided to use P-masks, they're OK, not as good as Eduard (which I also bought.....)
RLM02'd
plenty of internal detail on this: engines are defined too.
internal pre-shading. Bf109 (new Tamiya G6) simultaneous build.
picking out highlights in red/yellow etc. to add to the 3-dimensional effects
Airfix provide 2 glaring omissions: belt buckles and the external, ventral 'towel-rail antennae'....buckles from wine caps.
the Achilles' heel of the build, this seat is precariously mounted in the rear of the cockpit- care will be needed to attach the rear bulkhead and eventually the ventral MG15
the toughest part of the build: the top left has to go into the fuselage....and its very tricky with the rear seat and the warping of the fuselage doesn't help...
after much butchery, we got the final pieces in....with some loss of detail alas.
finally in, but note the warping
the instrument panel is a Yahu a/market...great to pop in some detail here....
it (cockpit) does look suitably busy at this scale
After a hiatus: CoVID-19 has prompted me back. Tidied work-bench and temporary use of Chinese generic airbrush as Harder and Steenbeck has furred up...
Vallejos all round. Humbrol Clear for the varnish....pre-decals....
I will need to scratch-build the ventral 'towel-rail' antennae
Decals finally popping out at you.Matt varnish: Vallejo
decided against Airfix's decals, many built Do-17s on the internet are adorned with them. So went for Owls'. Good product.
agonisingly close to completion....needs some panel washes and I'll call her done.
not sure they always sported the white 'walk-way' lines from photos they could have been red?, well in another life I'll build differently.
Airfix have made a great subject here. I've done my best to pull something out of it.
decent detail underneath....shame about the towel rail antennae, my 2 attempts at scratch building were partially successful. Surely an aftermarket goal?!
one big bomb, and a fuel tank...I'm too lazy to add loads of ordinance!
yup, she looks better from afar!...
Pleasant port profile view: another coat of matt varnish and I’m saying Dornier Do-ne!

@Lukasz: no, I've deleted all the photos...this is the re-incarnation....is it me?, or is SCM sometimes a pain-in-the a$$ to use?....

edging closer to the finish....panel washes and perhaps 'that's all folks'.....

Splendid result Andy, really impressive 🙂 I like the detail, maybe I'll have to get the Airfix version.....

Guy, it's a great little kit...mine was beset with a warped fuselage around the b/bays, and aspects of the cockpit are very fiddly (rear seat-check out blog), otherwise it's a corker!

I agree Andy, the screen design and functionality is sometimes not very intuitive. I have accidentally deleted things in the past. But it is what it is.

Thanks Dave, it did correct a little once most of the assemblies went together, but contributed to a lot of ill-fits in the rear cockpit area. I've got to do some washes and then I'll hang up the brushes.....

@ Alec K, Cuajete, Łukasz, Roland and Skywalker: thanks for the replies, @ Łukasz I think this one's "fodder" for Glowacki's 303's....

@David: slowly, just like the bomber. (Great kit though, can't be rushed!)

Juergen, many thanks-I think the Pencil's inherently good looking....I merely coloured it in a bit!

Thanks Zhivko, I'll look out for your 'pencil'- I'll warn you though- the rear cockpit internals can be tricky- and hope you don't have any warping issues with the fuselage.

@Lothar29: it performed better in the night versions, sure. Pretty rubbish in the Battle of Britain though during the day!
