Done!

Album image #1
The (almost) finished model, lacking some more stowage and figures for the wooden base. I used Tamiya XF-60, lightened with buff, and Olive Green and Red Brown from the same brand.

The camouflage colors were followed by gloss varnish. The 20-year-old decals were extremely brittle and broke into pieces, but somehow I got them to look ok.

I wanted to create a vehicle used in Normandy, so I kept the weathering and chips to a minimum. Summer of 44 shows a lot of Normandy vehicles with dust, but no excessive mud was to be found. As I quite like the camo scheme, thats an added bonus as its not hidden under a thick layer of grime.

The Kanonenwagen will be abandoned, but not shot up.

View of the inside with stowage and stuff still missing. This time, I'm really pleased with the chipping, and found retarder in combination with Vallejo Model Color a killer combo, as the paints stays wet for a long time.

The brass shells were tortured with a lighter, followed by some pigments and oil washes.

The finished model on its wooden base. Maybe sometime I'll start vignettes/dioramas again...

The figures are from Tamiya's new Late War Infantry set, and are really fantastic. From fit to overall detail, there is not much to be left desired.

Halt! Why is the Halbkette standing abandoned, and what's that noise?

Album image #14
Tamiya really nailed the pose.

Album image #15
Bring the Geballte Ladung, just in case.

Album image #16
Some details on the inside. The blue tool box is a nice drop of color.

7.5cm KwK in all its glory. What was the armament of a full-fledged tank just four years ago now serves as a support weapon.

The crew must have left in quite a hurry

Great result.
Would you still recommend buying this kit ?

Hi Olivier,

thanks! I think the kit is dimensionally more accurate than the Dragon one (iirc), and the old Tamiya kit is no match. So yes, I'd buy it again (and in fact I have a 251/1 with the Pak 40 😉)

Album info

Finally, some progress. With the summer over, now's the time to get back to the work bench. I was kind of reluctant to take more photos, since due to the open nature of the vehicle, some part was always masked, put aside or left some place else.

The Kit was a little disappointing, unfortunately. There was a lot of flash, and the plastic is very brittle. Detail and fit were quite good, though! The workable tracks were a nightmare to assemble, and I strongly recommend to glue everything together properly, as the "workable" is more of a marketing gag.
The brass shells were totally worth it, though, and look fantastic.
