Kyle DeHartForgotten to document this project up until now. A build I started to be a gift to my father. Novis were his favorite race cars as a kid. He watched them at the Indy 500 the first year he went and the screaming supercharger made quite an impression on young ears. I was able to find a kit sort of last minute and get a good jump on it to get it to him by this weekend. Luckily some of these resin kits don't have many parts. In 1956 the Novi operation commissioned new Rear wheel drive chassis from Frank Kurtis to replace the aging and obsolete front wheel drives they'd been using. This is what they came up with. Paul Russo was the driver. He qualified respectably and even moved into the lead but a blown tire early in the race led to him smacking the wall. Car and driver bounced back the following year to finish 4th. This car carried the Vespa scooter name and there was even a publicity photo taken of the tiny scooter next to the big fire breathing V8 roadster! As for the build paint and decals were taken care of first. Then cleaning on polishing the white metal. Started with the rear suspension and then moved to the front. Sometime during that I painted the interior a saddle color and did the instrument panel in flat aluminum. This one is getting close to the end and I'll drop it in a case and gift it to my dad!!

Kyle DeHartOne thing I know I don't like about these resin kits are the vacuform windscreens. Complete pain. But that's installed as well as the cockpit floor, seat and steering wheel. The finish line is almost in sight now.

Kyle DeHartThis one crosses the finish line in quick order. A nice enough little kit for a rough home cast deal. Builds up nicely and looks the part. Gave it to my dad already and he loved it! So it's a success for me. On to the next one.

Kyle DeHartThanks Rui. My hobby does not include photography. I know that it should and that my own builds would look better photographed in a decent manner, instead of just up on the countertop. It's just not something I am interested in. I love all the great photography and modeling that goes on here on the site though.

Rui SWell i can understand that photogrphy it's another kind and level of hobby, but a black or white folded cardboard, and even a mobile phone are effortless and work wonders for presentation in the modeling hobby. Just my two cent opinion hope you don't mine me saying.

Kyle DeHartDon't mind you saying so at all Rui. It's nice to get the help and opinions of fellow modelers on here. Perhaps one day I'll get some white poster board to use as a backdrop. I have considered it before.

BozzerI'm sure that with a little bit of homework, you could throw a pit lane diorama together? I used a lot of card, in my Dio days. Easy to work with, cheap (cereal boxes) and you can paint it with acrylic. (Tip for this: paint both sides of the card, to prevent warping) But anything is possible, when you get in the groove 😉

Kyle DeHartNo doubt I could Bozzer. And have considered it. And possibly would if all I built were race cars. But there's a wide array of subjects that I enjoy. Maybe a pit lane that doubles as a highway and triples as a runway. 🤣 But then there's the space consideration. Right now my photo set up takes up exactly zero room. Lol. I need something collapsible! I don't know. I ponder on it from time to time when the brain cells decide to work for a few minutes.
