I think it's important the timeline represents the origins of the kit. For all intents and purposes this is a reboxed WNW kit as it's using the already made WNW tooling. We just never got the WNW release.

I wonder why a new-tool Überkit, of all things, should have "production troubles and mould maintenance issues". It's probably a marketing plot in the race for "Priciest mainstream kit ever".

Molds were not purchased from WnW. Border bought the molds from the mold manufacturer in China when WnW failed to pay for the mold. WnW is still a company (not producing anymore) and technically this is intellectual property theft by Border. Mold manufacturer should have destroyed the molds and sought compensation through litigation. Typical theft of intellectual property by a Chinese company. It's a limited run because they know they will loose in court and distributors won't carry it once the dust settles. So if you want it...better grab it because this is likely the only batch they will make.

DCCS - do you have any reference(s) like articles etc on this? I've read vastly different "articles" trying to figure out how Border Model acquired the moulds from WNW but none had any detailed info, and frankly most just felt like best guesses from all who posted info about it... Anything substantial would be appreciated so I can learn the truth - if possible?

If the manufacturer of the moulds sold them to get paid it's a rather serious crime since they didn't belong to them - and for Border Model to use them (knowingly?!) equally bad, but that's what the law states where I live. Border Model is a Chinese company and they have vastly different rules and laws regarding copying copyrighted materials for example, and if they bought the moulds in China, from the Chinese manufacturer, perhaps it isn't illegal at all? Selling the kits outside China would surely be illegal since it's the IP of WNW, but now I'm just guessing... And guessing isn't helping anyone when you try to figure out the truth!

But if what you're saying is true then it's a dodgy move on everyone's part getting this kit to market - even if it's making a lot of people very happy...

Badest thing that could happen to WNW No Frank it is not as simple as that.
And one can see what Border recently released here is exactly painting that picture of making money of it and try to look like a big and very unique manufaturer..but in the end it is all about the money..
There is no heart or love to the hobby with their Lancaster release.
