That looks tiny. I've got the big brother in 1:35. I'm in for watching.

It's very tiny Frank 🙂 extremely fiddly too! I'm not sure what I've let myself in for!? Cheers

I have this helicopter in 1:35th and 1:48th and I couldn't imagine tackling it in 1:72nd, bravo just for the attempt !! One project to follow I think 🙂
Could you post up a photo comparing the Eduard parts compared to the kit parts ?

Cheers fellas. Another wee update and a comparison shot as requested Choppa Nutta. I've removed the turbocharger exhaust and replaced with brass tube, the engine exhaust tip also been replaced with tube. The skids are still in progress but I've replaced the cross beams with brass rod. The comparison shot of the italeri and eduard set shows a big difference in the framing structure. The Eduard set is for an OH-13S aircraft and the section where I have the oil tank fitted is vertical; for the chopper I'm building this part needs to be angled like the italeri piece. I've since snipped the tail boom and used the italeri part as a template to bend the etch. I'll need to extend about four parts; we'll see how that goes... I also discovered the bell 47s built under licence by Westland have a larger canopy - after comparing photographs it is quite noticeable. The italeri canopy would be the wrong type so I'm going to try and mould my own - the photos show milliput placed on the kit part. Once dried I can sand and smooth. Fingers crossed 🙂
Cheers

Wow what a cool and tiny work! I love it!👍

Love the tailboom. I have the 1/48th scale OH-13 and the tubing is way out of scale. Gary

Looking great so far ! Particularly interested in how you mold a new canopy bubble 🙂

Thanks very much folks. Doesn't look I've done much but lots of little bits added. I've extended the tail boom as I spoke about. Re-fitted the oil tank and added various other parts to the structure. Continued with the rotor head and have fitted the stabiliser bar. Regards my new canopy; I need to order some thicker clear plastic for this.

Milk Trip,
I realise that this is super fiddly work especially at 1:72nd scale and I really like what you've done thus far but forgive me for pointing this out but your boom needs a couple of wee adjustments with regard to a couple of angles as it is far to straight across the bottom.
I hope you don't mind my saying this and please don't shoot me 🙂

Hats off to you for tackling this project. Great work on a small craft.

Thanks guys; I didn't foresee the amount of changes required to build a British AAC version prior to starting this. I was very tempted to get another eduard etch set and start again after finding out what I know - but I think I shall continue with this. @ choppa Nutta, I don't mind at all, infact I'm glad you pointed it out. I thought I'd check again, just incase it was the angle the photograph was taken but no, the bottom is too straight and just doesn't look right. It shouldn't be too difficult to change although parts of the eduard etch are starting to look a bit frail after all this handling; I hope they can hold out just a little longer! 🙂

Yeah it does look super fiddly & fragile, success or failure I admire the attempt 🙂
I had a thought about using 0.5mm carbon rod to reinforce the long parts of the frame or perhaps laying in some strands of carbon tow.

Wow, how can I miss such impressive build? Let me slip in the front row and pass me a glass of whisky.

Thanks guys. Another update. Detailing various sections; jumping from one to another as I wait for parts to dry. It's slowly taking shape 🙂

Another wee update. Various section finished and set aside for priming. MRH and cockpit bubble to finish - also need to continue with the vacform canopy

But I love it mate! I've built this one OOtB n' it was a fun build.

really is beginning to take shape very nicely 🙂

Thank you 🙂 another update. A number of sections primed. The seats need a bit of work as they are a bit rough. Glad the primer is on as its nice to see how everything looks with a uniform colour. I'm away for 2 weeks so won't be able to continue until I'm back. Cheers for looking

Impressive build or should i call it scratch-build, as not so many pieces seem to be from the kit?

I see a wire that must be green instead of yellow. 🙂 Just joking. Impressive build. 👍

Thanks very much guys. This has been a challenge! The framing is a bit wonky, I'll try and straighten it out at some point. Michel, my reference pictures show a yellow wire, maybe the photo was over exposed 😛 😄

looking at it sitting next to that penny it looks impossibly small, must have been very difficult to get it as good as you have !!
I shall not mention boom droop as I don't think I could get any where near this good with PE at this scale, cockpit looks really good 🙂

Aaron Liles
Thanks Choppa. The last two shots are just dry fits, hence the droop on the tail. However, I did struggle to keep things parallel on the top of the framing near the avionics (?) boxes

*update* canopy fitted 🙂 currently building some doors. I took Choppa nutta's advice and made an adjustment to the tail boom. I was reluctant to do this at first as the framing was a right pain to deal with, but I'm glad I did. Cheers Choppa 🙂
