As you won´t see much of the cockpit I painted it but didn´t apply any washes or weathering. Pre-painted PEs for the cockpit are provided with the kit.

Following, interested to learn more about this 100$ kit. Nice job so far with pay attention on details.

On this rainy sunday I came back to my workbench. After even more filling and sanding it is now time for gluing the major parts together. First I placed the window into the fuselage but later decided to remove it again. On the lower edge of the window you look at a prominent glued surface which didn´t turn out as I thought before. So I will paint both the edge on the fuselage and the lower edge of the window first and then place the clear part in place later. This will look much better.
The correct adjustment of the cockpit is a bit tricky. Modelcollect forgot to create a good guidance or parts to hold the cockpit proper in place. I attached it with very little glue and put the upper half of the fuselage on the lower one and then corrected the position of the cockpit bay. After carefully removing the upper fuselage again I applied a normal amount of glue. The fitting check shows a good result.

Definitely not the best fitting kit in town. Nice progress!

Thank you guys! The most interesting fitting issues will occur in the next step when gluing the wings to the body. As I decided not to fill the engravings (as it is done on the original) and some of them run along the wing/fuselage joints I´m curious how it will looks at the end.

In order to clean up the workbench two weeks ago I found the mood to glue the wings to the fuselage.

After filling and sanding the transition I could use my new engraving tools

Looks like a lot of putty is needed. But you did a good job so far.

Thanks a lot guys!

Patrick, I´m using this tool:
brevecomodelling.nl/..lamp-holding-handle/

in combination with these:
brevecomodelling.nl/product/scribing-mesjes/

In the case of the B-2 I use the 0,2mm scriber followed by some moves with the Ofla P-Cutter

Przemek, yes, there a big gaps between the wings and the fuselage. The transition also needs to be adjusted by sanding. Unfortunately Modelcollect choose to divide the wings along engraved lines... As this project is the first one I´m using scribing techniques I decided to make my own plaster from styrene dissolved in plastic glue to achieve a material similar to the rest of the kit. The other advantage is to get a much bigger surface of glue holding all together - the kit parts are really massive and heavy.

Thanks Sven! They look interesting. I've heard about Dspiae but never used their products. And I guess we have another fan of sprue goo. 😉 Works like a charm as you mentioned, the material behaves the same as the original plastic.

Yes Patrick, sprue goo has a lot of advantages. Just the drying time is very long.....

True.... Compared to lacquer based fillers it dries for ages.

Album info

I think Modelcollect scored the overall shape of the Stealth Bomber quite correct. To make the model stable they decided to use a high wall thickness of about 2mm for the fuselage. Because of this and the addition of the inclined surfaces of the moulds lead to some major gaps as you can see at the joint line of the air intakes or the underside of the wing. So a lot of putty and sanding will be required.
Furthermore Modelcollect made some deep engravings on the flying wing. In real all the joint lines of the panles are filled to reduce radar reflection. I still don´t know if I should fill them, too, or just don´t point them out?
