Strange for Tamiya to create a line in the middle of a panel

Album image #12
Could have been a bit more blue/green but it will have to do

Removed a couple of antennas not used by a block 20MC. The remaining one on the spine is block 19MC and up.

Album image #14
Early blocks had a circular panel 124 on the right side. Once a KY28 secure voice system was installed this panel was replaced by a trapezoid panel.

It just fits. Mostly. Except around where engines and the leading edge of the wing meet. And at the hull, just aft of the Trailing edge Flaps.

Early blocks didn’t have the strengthening plates at the tips of the leading edges. Remade the Tamiya parts

The one on the right is lightly drybrushed

I couldn't sleep with the ever so lightly tinted bluish windshield. Stripped it with Mr.Muscle Oven Cleaner and resprayed with Alclad Armoured Glass.
Wasn't quite happy with it, but that Armoured Glass paint is indeed armored and will not be removed with oven cleaner. So this it. Most definitely.

Both Furball. The one cut out is from the decalset in the project but way too light. Lighter than the picture suggests.
The other set is also from Furball but more correct. Strange. And a shame to waste insignia for 2 phantoms on the original set.

Made some masks on the Cameo with a light airbrush of Alclad2 121 and 413. Even flakes on the NMF! (In all honestly, not planned.. nor the torn off decals)

Two brands of Sparrow..

The above being the Eduard Brassin ones. The lower is Tamiya from the kit.

The expensive aftermarket Eduard ones have shape issues and do NOT fit. Neither in the front position nor the aft position. Nice. Not.

Eduard is too short, to blunt and the front missiles differ in shape and are just a little too forward. Decal wise it is different as well.

Compare the two.

Those decals sinking in the details are perfect! Did you use any decal setting solutions?
While it might seem to be an irrelevant detail, those honeycomb "NO STEP" warnings were indeed red for the Navy. Nice to see a well researched decal sheet. Many other decal sheets are giving these signs in yellow or black.

What products are you using for the gloss and later for thr matt varnis?

I use DACO medium and strong on the Furball stencil set. It's not fit to size for Tamiya despite their statement. Also lacking proper instructions and missing some stencils.
After some daco I cut the decals with a sharp blade over panel lines and use a pin to enhance rivets.
Despite being applied on glossy surface there is still a lot of silvering.

Gloss is Future. Matt will be Alclad2.

I also use Future as gloss, but sometimes it turns permanently milky (without any other repair options) when I'm using strong decal setting solutions.
Have you had a positive experience with thr Alclad Matt varnish?

Yes I like the Alclad2 finishes a lot actually. Different grades of matt. I'll be using those as well to further enhance the metal shades.
So far so good I believe. There was a temporary change of color on the left leading edge. Won't a new Future layer help?

Looks great already, and no silvering on the pictures as far as I can see 👍
Looking forward to the rest of the build!

A perfect Phantom and well researched. Did you use now the Eduard exhausts? And full marks for the airbrushed markings 👍.
What goodies would you recommend?

I would definitely advise eduard exhausts, mirrors, hypersonic nose pod and Quickboost fuel dump, Quinta is amazing.
And maybe not as much the Eduard ladder, fin cap (a little too wide on the front) and the seats.
Definitely not the Flying Leathernecks AERO-3B launchers, mine were so badly warped and I couldn't get them straightened out by boiling water. The Furball stencils are better sized for Academy and not entirely correct, misplaced or complete. But it does give that stenciled look. Both speedbrakes and tail hook take some time to get rid off the 3D print Marks.
And the Dead Design masks didn't fit mine.

Thanks for the positive comments!
