How hard can it be ?

You'll see, Mike 😉 Surely, most of the tiny parts will need to be substituted with scratch-build ones...

Wow, that's a brave choice indeed 👍

Certainly not the easiest choice for a first project

For sure Robert. Yes, some parts are incredibly thin. Having said that, they are probably stronger than the same in regular plastic. More bendy. The really tricky part is separating them from the resin blocks. That's a challenge in itself!

Yes, i must be a bit crazy taking on a pretty complex kit as a first resin build. The 'cage' for the rear gunner i will leave till last. That looks especially scary!

I am sure you will turn it into beautiful model, Mike.

All a bit of an experiment really Robert, but i'll give it a good shot. I have a few more pics of progress so far. Its all pretty rough but coming along ok.

I'm in too!
There is a 3D printed kit in 1:48 now, but the finished bird is too big for me.

Please use pins at the wings connections! CA can hold it, but is brittle. So a light movement of the finished model -> small forces on the long wings = crack of the CA!

Impressive progress!

Thanks bughunter. Too late!! Have stuck them together and so far, so good. Im using Gorilla Cyo Gel, which was recommended for resin. It does seem considerably stronger than the regular stuff. Pinning at 1/72 is pretty difficult. I would probably have ended up just cracking the resin. Fingers crossed!

Hi Mike, I pin with 0.020" (about 0.5mm) brass wire. It adds a lot of strength. and is small enough for 1/72.

Ok Mike. In this case good luck, especially in long term.
I would not trust, but my models have to be robust enough for long street transportation for visiting exhibitions and contests. If you put them into your cabinet it is ok.
If 0.4mm is not possible I add pins of 0.3 or even 0.2mm. And a pin, however thin, is better than none.

Thanks for the advise Ben M and bughunter, its good advice too, and something i will do in the future. For this first resin build i'm just happy to get it stuck together. I may come to regret that decision! I find it really difficult to line up the holes accurately for pinning. It is especially tricky with this kit as each lower wing is in two sections, requiring two lots of pinning - which all need to line up. I prefer a bit of wriggle room.

May I recommend you to use Albion alloys nickel Silver rod 0.1 and 0.2 mm p for the rigging of the wings. It is a stiff material, you can actually cut it with scissors and glue it with ca. The main advantage is that it puts no stress on the struts, what happens with Ez line thread.

Not tried that one before Erik. I might just try that. I sometimes use guitar strings but they do sag somewhat, especially the very thin ones. Im rather hooked on EZ line, although it does have its limitations. Its also flat, rather than round, and prone to twisting, splitting. Nice one. Will look into it. Probably stick with EZ for this fairly complex rigging. ps Not really impressive progress. Been working on it for several weeks. Was not sure if to post in SM as its all a bit of an experiment and highly likely to all go wrong. Im just waiting for the wings to snap!!

If you want o avoid this flat EZ line with twisting you can try these "rig that thing", also rubber to avoid stress on the struts but round and available in different sizes (here one example):
