Great Björn, you are doing a yellow-wing Wildcat! So please sign me in to that unusual and beautiful project!

I've started building the Hobby Boss F4F-3 Wildcat. Cockpit is finished and all the small parts too. Next step is a gloss black on the fuselage and wings in preparation for the Alclad II Polished Aluminum.

You are fast, Roland!😉 Yes it will be a yellow wing version. I just love that paint scheme. I hope I can make it justice. 🙂

The masking and painting is finished. My strategy this time was to start with the yellow, then the black and finish with the aluminium, as this meant I wouldn't have to mask over the Alclad II. It went pretty well, but I have some problem areas that I have to clean up before spraying the aqua gloss.

Thanks Wim! 🙂
I like the kit. It's got quite a lot of nice detail in the cockpit and the wheel bay and engine. The panel lines and riveting is also really nice and crisp. I didn't have any major fit issues, so not a lot of sanding and the only putty I used was in the wing joins to the fuselage where I put some plastic putty to fill the gap. The front part of the canopy sits a little high, though, so I am going to address that, but it is a small fix. So overall I like it so far. We will have to see how the decals are.. I haven't used any yet.

Nice cat Björn, Good Job, i like the times of the yellow Wing Planes. I See you have the same Problem with the small Black Lines then l. After Manny Not so cool sprayjobs, l spray the Lines on the planes at last. First the Stripcolor dan l Tape the Strip with a Little smaler tapestrip and spray the small Lines in matblach. At last i spray it with a cot of Tamiya gloss.

very nice little Wildcat! I would have sprayed black first as you can then simply use thin stripes of Tamiya tape 🙂 ... and to keep them spaced equally I use another strip of Tamiya tape as a guide which is removed after masking.

Thank you Sören! 🙂
Todays work: I fixed a few of the problem areas and added the painted stripes on top of the wings. I also added the decals. Next will be some light weathering.

Thank you Erik and Roland! 🙂
I wonder what is next.. I just bought a Mustang III, but I'm also thinking about building another Zero. They are both Tamiya kits so they should be nice to build as a summer project.😉

You are an accomplished builder and this is a beautiful example of what makes modelling worthwhile.
I built mine just like this except wheels up. This was a tough application to do this. It looks ok but I wish kit makers would include that provision with every kit.
