Very nice build. Camo and white wash looks excellent. I am starting this same build and after studying original war images I have a question.... If the white wash was applied in the field how come the unit numbers and emblems seem to be clean and applied on top of the white? I would agree that some archival images certainly show the numbers fairly crisp as if they are on top of the white. Any ideas?

Thanks for the comments, Dave. I'm thinking the white wash was applied a number of times in the field. The photos I've seen were from March 1945 -- late winter, which suggests the crew or maintenance unit touched up or reapplied the whitewash during the winter. The unit emblems could have been masked over or reapplied. The crosses look like they were partially masked and perhaps touched up. My assessment is that the tactical numbers were most probably freshly applied over the whitewash. They are relatively crisp and new looking.
