I've bought the kit but the instructions refer to a "generic" Italian Medium Green which cannot be found among the classic suppliers of modeling colors.

is stated that it is the original green used by the Caproni factory in the thirties. We should understand if there are some chips somewhere....

My fourth motorcycle project is now complete. After finishing the work, I can conclude that I have problems with polishing. No matter how much I polish, there are still many micro-scratches from the sandpaper. 🙁 This is especially noticeable on the black paint.

that is a lot of decals tho... wow! Did you get the standing Vader with the Tie Advanced as well? I noticed it's missing from the Revell Master Series rebox.

Hi Markus, yes there's a standing Vader included. As I needed to start the Tie Advanced again due to glueing the Ion Engines on upside down, I've now got two!

I assembled the PJ pilots and started nipping off parts to assemble the fuselage. Getting the pilots to fit in their seats is tricky so far. Fit on the Academy kit parts is pretty nice. Sword kit is not as easy since there's no locator pins but they align well

Pilots are fully painted now. The F-8E pilot is based on Dick Schaffert, who was a pilot on this 1966 cruise. While I don't know of any specific plane he flew, F-8 pilots often flew jets that were assigned to others, so he's flying 149180 on this escort mission. In order to accommodate them, I had to remove the rudder pedals and front of the cockpit tub on the F-8E. It won't really be visible when the cockpit is buttoned up anyway.

I've heard of guys, filling in reefers, with expanding foam?
I've never personally done it, because I like the option of opening doors. Those mudflaps look so much better now, too.

Mmm, insulation foam in a reefer….
There is/was a load of cyanide in that stuff. Not something I want to emit in my hobby room.
My 2k also contains cyanide, but those vapours are mainly vented outside

Currently these planes are enveloped with gum to spray the camo on them. This is extremely tedious because the gum is not always adhering well and it must be sculpted exactly the same on each plane. I now painted the hangar floor in Lifecolor Deck Blue 20b (don't mind the overspray) and I also built the side elevators. This is a very nice fit from Pontos, but the netting supports are erroneously numbered 36 and this part is not abounding, nor does it fit the purpose. In stead of it should be used part 10, that was left in just the right numbers. The repair of the 5 inch/38 resin housings was first done with putty but then I wanted the outline to be improved and I made impressions with a knife flat and a drop of CA. Then break off the knife and a straight edge will result.

The 5 inch guns are now all detailed according to reference pictures of the ships. Essex was different than Hancock, it had no blastbags nor ladders. But in the end I noticed I used the wrong type of ladder, so maybe those will be removed. For the single guns one double gun barrel was wrongly shipped, so I lengthened that one with a 1mm Albion tube. Also some small parts are not provided in the needed quantity, or the option of placing PE steps was not shown in the manual.

Thank you kind people. I wasn't happy with the pilot figure in the kit, so I opted against one. The build was interesting in that I got to try so many new things. Also it was the first time I worked with CA accelerator.

One thing I need to find a way to do better is painting ribs. The 1mm tamiya tape produced a result that's a bit too coarse. I can't imagine using finer tape so I'll have to come up with a different approach.

A possible solution would be to mask each side of the rib with photo frisket to give you a line to paint or the vinyl type of Tamiya tape may give you a crisper line. If I ever build my Avro Triplane, I will let you know what works for me.😎

Well I've done it now - mated body to chassis so there is no going back.
Went together fairly well. Had some issues with rear window and air intake/spoiler fitting together however had to compromise with the fit so the intake
is slightly out of alignment.
You can see more of the engine than I thought then realised I had not fitted any rear roll cage - doh!
So some clever disguise work is needed!

Turned out really well, looks realistic, Tamiya do bikes really well .
I've done the NSR 500 back in 2002.
Been mostly planes since l got back into scale in last year built 7 and one tank.
I really like the look of the Heller Citroen DS.

Michael Kohl, thanks for your feedback. The model is already finished. Previously, I only built armored vehicles, and they are very different in weathering from aviation, so I still have little experience with aircraft models and there is still a lot to learn about this. I'll take your advice into account in the future, thank you very much!

I want to say that the kit itself is not bad. I liked assembling it, but the quality of the product, which was manufactured in the USSR, is just terrible! I feel sorry for Soviet modelers. Perhaps, I should have looked for an original FROG kit.

Those parts of the kit that were made of green plastic are VERY FRAGILE and do not glue well. Apparently, this is the famous Soviet polystyrene with a yield coefficient of about 4 units (FROG used plastic at least 30).
