bk1009In case anyone's wondering since there doesn't appear to actually be an E-variant of the BMP-3 anywhere - this model appears to be of the rarer BMP-3 with a Vesna-K sight. The tell-tale is the second optic installed outboard of the standard 1K13-2 or newer Sozh sight It can be made into a standard BMP-3 using the unused parts on sprue D, or even into the newer vehicles refitted with the Sozh (single optic on the roof, IR beamer in place of the original IR spotlight) sight using aftermarket/spare parts or by scratch-building the PL-1 IR beamer.

bk1009By the way, since the manual doesn't give information about the colours of the interiour (outside of suggesting flat black for the seats) people can try something like Tankograd's BMP-3 article for reference (ie to see which parts of the turret basket are red, grey, white.. etc). Also, from the same set of reference photos, it'd appear that the unditching log's position in actual usage is different - it hangs on the port side's hull and not as depicted on top of the main hull beside the turret.

bk1009Thanks, I like how it turned out so far despite me screwing up a bit with the tracks (though thankfully, it shouldn't be something that can't be hidden with a bit of weathering. Also, I'm surprised how well the packs turned out, given that they were copied using Oyumaru (and sprue goo) straight of the sprue of a Tamiya detail set XD

bk1009Uhh,a bit of warning to kit builders - this kit's full of errors thanks to it mixing up details specific to Factory 183 and 112. For example, front and upper rear hull plates and weld joints are 183-pattern, while the flush bottom plate is 112. Same goes with the turret - the distinct turret shape with the flattened sides (and one long seam on the circumference of the whole turret) place it as a 183, whereas the seam towards the turret nose is the shape of a 112 "Composite" turret (1945 pattern, since the turret has a one-piece turret hatch and split fans).
Unfortunately, the anachronisms make the original kit (6545 WW2 Factory 183) unrealistic as well, since (again) - the hull uses a mix of 183 and 112-features AND worse - at least some of the 183 details date the production date of the kit after the end of the (European) war, as the final drive housing's of the latter (May '45 and onwards) shape, with a distinct step (as opposed to the original rounded one).
Tl;dr version: While this kit's shaping up to be a decent enough build (especially at its price point), Italeri sure dun goofed on the details, so if one wants to have an "accurate" tank, going with the Zvezda, DML or MiniArt (among others) will be needed.

bk1009Just a couple of quick observations about the kit, in case someone else is attempting to build this bugger as a machine ready for combat and not as one on a road-march (as depicted in the instructions). The D18's are traversable periscopes, with PE13 being their covers (that hinges on the upper edge, with a rod that should be scratch built to connect to the periscope base). The PE12 sight cover rotates using the small vertical part of the turret as an axle. GP1-4 and 1-3 seem to have a blueish hue, while 1-2 seem reddish. Both front lights are black on newer machines (according to a documentary on the machine I found online), with a simple brush guard (two U-shaped main sections on either side, with thinner cross-members) around them, while the older go with the silver/black combo (convoy/blackout light and the IR? one) and no brush guard. Ah, and in the same documentary, there was a sequence with the smoke dischargers, which activated right to left (on the right-side of the turret), though the programme didn't say if the crew can command which smoke grenades go first, nor if the machine could pop single canisters or not "¯\_(ツ)_/¯ "

bk1009That was the plan, until the diorama base I ordered joined the crewmen I ordered for my T-34/85 in the Bermuda triangle that are is the EU's post services 😄

bk1009Thanks, I'm still surprised it turned out so decently too. Especially given that this was done using a bit of Tesco hairspray, a coat of MrHobby H1 and an unholy combination of white ash pigment, baking soda and plaster for the snow XD
