Curtis CadenJonathon Herring you are probably correct. The urban dictionary kind of alluded to a car whose accessories exceeded the value of the automobile as one of the definitions. As a model there were a lot of whistles and bells with chromed parts that probably shouldn't be as well as opening headlights, car doors and trunk but not a particularly good model kit in my opinion. I find that to be kind of ironic, although I may be misusing that word as well.

A Hooptie is any car usually old, beat up, yet driven daily. It means an old car with many miles that might have faded or cracked paint, broken doors, a loud muffler, and who knows what else. The car would hardly meet the safe-to-drive standards.
This model was one purchased at auction that had already been started. I found an engine from another model and completed the assembly thinking the Hot Magenta paint was going to be OK. Rather than repaint it I just called it a hoopty.
Basically, a piece of shit car. Usually cheap and/or broken down. Can be any size, make or model, but must (or should) be embarrassing to drive for some reason, such as when you bump the stereo all the plastic "effects" you have hot-glued to the exterior rattle, instantly betraying the cheapness of your bling.
