Is “started” broken? I don’t see my in progress projects.

I have kits in "Started" in a actual project, but it is may be a while ago while I set this. I was able to move one to "Started".
Do mean an automatic setting?

Maybe, I just know I have several kits in "in progress" projects, but they don't show up in "started". I don't see how to mark a kit as "started". Here's an example project: LZ 127 Graf Zeppelin | Project by Ben M (1:720)

Open the project page, open the + on the right for the related kit.
Click on the grey "Move" and then you can select another state.

Before someone asks:

Your project can be started, but the different items part of your project may not.

Oh thank you, I looked for something like this and did not find it myself! I do have one remaining question - for example on this kit I see "Started 1×|Projects 1×" - I've always found this confusing. Does scalemates think I have two copies of the kit?

No, that only links.
A example: the turnbuckle set with 30 turnbuckles on the plate for my biplanes. I can start it, and set it to complete, if all 30 are used and the plate is empty.
On the other hand I can link this plate to 3 projects: 10 for the first biplane, 12 on the next and 8 for the last.
A bit artificial example but I hope you got the point.

That makes sense. I ended up removing decal sheets from my stash because a lot of them are multitopic and were showing up 6 or 8 times and I found it confusing.

you can choose how multitopic items appear in your stash, by going to preferences, ans select "Hide double multitopic items in stash."
