Thank you guys. Managed to assemble the wings to the fuselage today, so after some sanding i will probably prime it black tomorrow and start with the paintjob.

Looking great! Love the modulation in the green 🙂

Thanks, hard to capture it on camera tough. It looks a bit different in real life. I really look forward to how it turns out when i add the white stripe around the rear part of the fuselage, the black stripes on the wings and roundels. Not to mention the bright blue nose and decals. 🙂

Nice work David.
What especially did you make with the upper side to let it look weathered?

Thanks Sören! I started out with black primer, then added mottling with vellejo air 71.016. Then i mottled some panels with 71.043 and/or with 71.044. Some more, some less. The panels that would be exposed more to sunshine got more 71.044. The rudders got the most 71.044, since they were covered in fabric and the olive drab bleached out there the most. Then i used a nearly black green to go along some of the panel lines. I then used very thinned 71.043 to go over all areas again, however i didn´t use the same amount on each panel. Less on the areas i didn´t want to be that worn out.

Thanks James! I was really unsure how i was going to tackle the green upper side. The Eduard instruction pictured it in a really light grey green, naming the color olive drab tough. Which is called brown-violett or rlm81 on the vallejo air bottle. And then i started to research what color this plane probably was in. Since i found nothing about this plane, i started to research on olive drab on P-39's and that´s a topic, that you can seem to spend an entire academic carreer on. So in the end, it´s probably more of an artistic take on the subject. However so far it´s been fun painting it. 🙂

Really good paintjob David. For fuselage bands and stripes I always use "Tamiya tape for curves", really ideal stuff. Very flexible tape and does not effect the paint whatsoever. But, having said that, you still have to mask it yourself so errors can occur 😄

Hi Erik, thank you for your kind words and the hint. I got the tamiya tape for curves some time ago after some fuselage bands on the bf109's i did a long time ago. Way better than with normal masking tape, however as you said... you still have to mark it for yourself. 😄

Superb work on the shading there! 👍👍👍

Thank you very much Burkhard! Really nervous about doing the exhaust stains next. Not sure if i should use airbrush, pigments or oil paint. Afraid to ruin the paintjob. So i guess today i will do the wheel's and prop instead. 😛

You should airbrush it!

I was nervous the first time. I started with Tamiya buff and gradually added brown and black getting darker and narrowing the stain with each mix. (Have a look at my bf-109)

Worked out fine airbrushing the stains. I used vallejo air nato black, which i thinned alot for the first streak and then added some white to the mix, so i got thinned white-grey.

But scary though isn't it!

Lots of assembly work today and stains on the guns. Need to glue the prop and two wheels to it and then go for matt varnish. Might finish it today!

Done. Much i would do different on the next build. Mainly working on a cleaner build (you can see gaps on the doors) and add around 1-2g more nose weight. It just barely isn´t a tail sitter. But I'm happy with the result, since i can see some improvement since the Wildcatfish. Now I'm thinking what to build next... 🙂
