I can't wait to see it - the Gannet is one of my favorite planes, no idea why. I've never seen the Classic Airframes kit, but I've seen a couple built that look pretty good.

congrats for the first price medal and it is realy a pretty one! It`s one of my favorite Carrier planes and I hope this type will be soon available in scale 48 from Trumpeter, Revell or otherwise. CA was too expensive for me.

Thanks everyone! I really enjoyed building this RoG kit, the fit was very good (little filler was needed). The Big Ed set added a lot of detail to the cockpit and the gear and weapon bays. You guys are right, though, it needs some torpedos in the weapons bay. I think someone makes them in resin, I should have a look.

Dave: Probably not, but the ailerons are hinged on the model, and they droop. Damn gravity. I should probably fix that. The ailerons that is, not gravity. 🙂
John: No Mach 2 in my collection or stash. There are some things you can't make me do! The Wyvern sounds very cool - that kit (and the 1:72 version) were tooled by Monochrome in Japan. They are beautiful!
Sebastian: The Fairey-Youngman flaps are very distinctive. Several British designs have them. You wouldn't normally see them dropped on the ground though, so there is some artistic license in the model!
Steve: You are right, it's a very functional design. The dual in-line engines, each driving one of the props, was brilliant. When patrolling over the ocean, the crew would routinely shut down one engine and feather its prop, and cruise on just one engine. This led to a large increase in range.

I asked Danni about the ailerons. She's in Australia and has her own personal Gannet in their museum. She is very knowledgeable about the Gannet, as well as many other planes flown by the Australian forces.

The ailerons on the Gannet would be in a neutral position when the aircraft is parked. They do not droop down. During flight, they are typical ailerons, when one is down the other is up. On my model, I depicted the Fairey-Youngman flaps deployed, which would only occur on the ground if they were being serviced.

I could pose the ailerons one up and one down - that would be interesting. Or I could put them in the neutral position. Shall we have a vote?
