Go easy with natural metal and pigments. I recommend black basing, marble coat, blend coat for subtle variation, then thin filters with oil paint for decoloration and dirt.

Cheers all. I did do a black gloss alklad base coat first. Also a fine gloss 'polish'. Used oil paint for dirt and pin lines. Think my thinner was too aggressive, only had white spirit. Just need to develop a gentler touch for this kind of work. I'll get there! All part of the learning process.
