Edward May Did the Fullback make a play in South Ossetia or not? Perhaps we will never know - but rumor is good enough for me; Besides I find this bird to be quite attractive. ^_^

Edward May Thanks for the tip!!

Pavel Pinzhin @Edward - well, english wiki page says "rumored", but russian wiki states quite positively using two SU-34 (№01 and №46 according to vitnesses) for EW, and also using anti-radiation missile to destroy a certain key radar.
Though, yes... A lot of confusion in this Age of Information :)

Edward May Thank you for confirming the rumors based on the Russian wiki, which obviously, the English wiki was lacking! I am really looking forward to this project now!

Pavel Pinzhin img-fotki.yandex.ru/get/6613..4.31/0_92bd8_35687b64_L.jpeg destroyed radar and three "red star" markings on №46 after the conflict.
Besides the usual confusion when both sides are bragging about or covering usage or losses of armour and weaponry, the mess about SU-34 of that time is based, as I see it, on the fact that there was no battle-ready those planes then, only two birds undergoing test flights. Both went to war, piloted by test pilots, because there were no prepared battle pilots for the modification. So a lot of usual "test-time" problems occured in battle environment, wich they obviously don't want to shout about.

Edward May I see, I found a good picture of 01, still looking for 46 - I'm finding every other 40-odd numbered Fullback though! Haha...

Pavel Pinzhin [img1] - taken from forum.topwar.ru/topic/97-%D1..D0%BA%D0%B8-%D1%81%D1%83-34/ (yep, some cyrillic search results here :) )
Here's a 1:72 build of 46 (if you're interested): scalemodels.ru/modules/forum/viewtopic_p_770898.html#770898

Here's an article about its EW complex (with a b/w photo of №46 test plane): militaryrussia.ru/blog/topic-802.html
I can dig some more in the russian net, if you'd like :)

Edward May Perfect!! Seems you are as excited for this project as I! Should you plan to build No.46 yourself too?? ;)

Pavel Pinzhin @Edward - surprisingly, it feels good just helping on a subject you simply have somewhat easier access to information about! :D I'm actually not into the modern aviation, but it swallows you sooo fast... :D I'm actually waiting for my SU-27SM to arrive shortly, bought it simply because it's a really great new kit, and because it was a SALE! for Zvezda at the moment.. :D Quite enough the reasons for any modeller, right? :)
7. August 2015 at 12:28:55
Edward May Yes, very right! The quality of Eastern Europe kits has improved so much in the past 20 years! :D I am happy to have had your' assistance in solving the riddle of the Sukhoi Su-34 seeing combat. I can hardly wait to get the reports that the PAK FA has drawn first blood ... just hopefully not American blood! Haha! :D
