Martyn Fox Just been to see the film Fury which I thought was excellent and to my eyes very authentic. Feel inspired to hunt this kit down as it seems to be the best example available ??

Fabian D. It´s a verry nice kit, a good choice if you´re building an "Easy 8"... but no klue if it matches the one in Fury, as I still haven´t seen it yet....

John Van Kooten Hi Martyn,

The M4A3E8 Asuka kit (formerly Tasca) is the best kit available of the "Easy 8". No question about it

It does have a two piece plastic barrel and rubber band tracks (both track sets divided in two parts, so four parts in total) but they are easy to build and clean. No reason to replace them with aftermarket products.

One question though: do you want to build a Sherman that looks exactly like the one in the movie? Because the Sherman used in the movie is actually the M4A2E8 Sherman "Harry" from the Bovington Tank Museum.

You could use the Asuka kit as a base. The tracks are the most obvious item that would need some attention. The tracks on the Fury movie Sherman are T84 tracks (which were not used in WWII), so you would need to replace the kit tracks, which are type T66.

Martyn Fox Thanks for the info John. I'm not thinking of building the exact Sherman from the film although it will be interesting to see how soon a company brings out the decals/aftermarket parts to model it. I'm off to the big IPMS show at Telford next week so the Tasca kit might be on my shopping list.I do recommend you both checking the film out though.

John Van Kooten The film is on my list for sure! :) I'm eager to go see it

I honestly don't know if there's much demand for AM sets from scale modelers to build movie armor? So yeah, it will be interesting to see if that happens :)

If you can get the, or for that matter, any, Tasca kit, I can assure you it will be well worth the investment :)

Good luck and hope you have a lot of fun at the IPMS show next week

M.Julian Marles Tamiya is also reboxing Asuka Shermans so that might be an option.

John Van Kooten Glad to hear you had a good time, Martyn! :) and great that you were able to get your hands on the Tasca kit! I'll go check out the pics of the show, thanks!

@Julian: Aha! I actually didn't know Tamiya was reboxing Tasca/Asuka kits :) not that it is surprising of course, since the Tasca team were basically all ex-Tamiya employees :D
