Page 69 of Squadron signal (6152) "Air Force Colors 1942 - 1947 volume 3" shows that the 456th FS P-47's wore blue on the nose and tail. The 413th FS had yellow on those surfaces.

There is a plate on page 40 of the same publication for "Pris n' Prissy', another 456th FS aircraft. The nose and tail are blue.
