It is really nice to see this build resurfacing and receiving your encouraging comments and likes. Thanks alot.
I am still in the process of buying a photobox to improve the quality of my pics. I post them as soon as they are done. Stay tuned.
@Neuling: actually the original idea behind the purchase of Eduards Mig15 was to build a ditched Mig15 from the Sinai Campaign.

So I might come back to that...

A very beautiful subject and model Michael, I was planning to do the exact same one!
It's nice to see you got the reference right, with black identification stripes, not green like some (wrongly) suggested.

Hi Marius, nice to have you stopping by. It is Eduard who deserves the praise, not me. The stripes are part of the kit as decals. Honestly I did not bother too much checking references as I just wanted to have a nice straigthforward build and I liked the livery (apart from my general interest in middle eastern affairs and the Sinai Campaign in particular).
I follow your builds though and enjoy - apart from the nice models - particularly the background information you deliver.

Marius, maybe you have information, whether this plane was kept in natural metal finish or was painted silver. A former GDR airplane mechanic once told me, that the planes (but he referred to Mig 21s) were delivered NMF and painted silver only later on.

I have to admitt I didn't get that far in the past with the reading yet, but judging by the black and white photos of Egyptian MiG-15s I woild say they were actually in NMF.
In several pictures you can see that the aerodynamic brakes and several small access covers (wing for example) are much darker, indicating that a corroguard mix was used. These differences wouldn't be visible in the pictures if the aircraft would have been painted in Silver, but it's only an educated guess.

Regarding the MiG-21s, until the MF version, all MiG-21s were delivered to all customers in the NMF (to my knowledge). Only very early batches of MFs were delivered in NMF, otherwise in grey or "sand and spinach". Otherwise, this so called NMF has it's story of it's own, since it was actually coated by varnish with a very small amount os silver paint. The procentage of silver paint varied from factory to factory, so not all "natural metal finishes" looked the same. Nevertheless, they were by no means silver overall.

The silver paint was indeed locally applied over the NMF by different customer countries to further protect the aging metallic surface, before subsequently the practice of camouflage painting became the norm. Finally, I have no idea if this is also the case for the MiG-15s (Egyptian ones for example), but I do know that some European countries applied silver on the MiG-17s.

👍 I just wanted to add a small piece of information after some research for my own curiosity.
As I already assumed above, the Egyptian MiG-15 were indeedl in the standard delivery NMF. They were quite shinny actually with clear color differences between different panels.

Btw, the insignia you used here Michael was present only until 1958 when the United Arab Republic (UAR) was founded, therefore your MiG-15 is a proud participant of the Suez War (1956).
