Armored Box Launcher from Infini. 83 PE parts, 5 turned brass parts and 6 hours of work.

Complete set of Harpoon and Tomahawk Launchers. Painted and weathered.
SH-2 from Orange Hobby. All markings are painted by hand as OH does not supply any decals and I could only find low viz decals in my stash. From normal viewing distance you cant tell the difference.
Tamiya and Pontos both provide Sea Hawks. As my New Jersey will be in a 1984 timeframe that is not an option. I'd love to have a Sea King on board, but the only available option don't look to great.
The Phalanxes from Pontos have a stunning level of detail. A wash with black oil paint followed by some careful dry brushing was all that was needed
Oil colors (black and some beige) were used to weather the deck and generate some shadows around the lockers and the CIWS
Some steel beams behind the Harpoon launchers were added from styrene stripes
Necessary corrections on the 5 inch turrets
There is a series of pictures showing New Jersey with SH-2 parked besides the aft turret and a SH-3 Sea King on the landing pad.
I used the old Tamiya kit as starting point and added some details. Markings are mostly hand painted and represent the exact Sea King on board of New Jersey in 1983.
Superstructure below the forward range finder. Besides Pontos PE I added: portholes with covers, 3D printed loudspeaker, some kind of antennas below where the SLQ-32 will be placed, and some doors that are not represented in the Tamiya kit.

Turret No3 under construction. As with the other turrets, some modifications were needed.
N.J. stern undergoing some surgery to add the Nixie systems doors.
3D printed Nixie system added to New Jerseys stern.
Some Details added to the aft gun tubs. More Details will be added after painting. There will be a reel with the fueling hose, some oil barrels and other small parts.
Where there have been the forward 40mm guns the deck is covered with circular steel plates. So I cut out the Pontos wood deck and fitted two circles from styrene sheet.
Improvements made to the bow.

Ingmar StöhrA few days off and bad weather lead to some progress on this project. Pontos set misses some details and the resin parts are generally excellent. A few show more flash and other minor defects. But still a vast improvement over the kit parts.

Ingmar StöhrI managed to complete all the Armored Box Launchers and the Harpoon Launchers. I even put all my courage together and started the opened launcher from the Infini set. 83 PE parts, 5 turned brass parts, some plastic sheet an 6 hours was all it took to build an amazing tiny detail for New Jersey.

Ingmar StöhrToday it was time to finish the four Phalanx CIWS. The detail on the Pontos parts is absolutely breathtaking. A was with black oil and afterwards a careful dry brush with light grey and white is all that was needed.

Ingmar StöhrToday I managed to complete all the 5 inch guns. The detail on the Pontos parts is superb! Only thing I had to change where the gun mantlets (not sure if that is what it's called for naval guns), as the Pontos parts are way to small.

Ingmar StöhrFinally some progress to show. I used the old Tamiya kit to replicate the SH-3 Sea King seen on board New Jersey in 1983. I added struts to the wheel sponsons an the fin on the tail boom. The MAD probe on the starboard sponson was made from styrene rod. The tail rotor is made from thin styrene strips. The main rotor came from my own Elegoo Mars SLA printer. The Tamiya rotors look more like bricks...
Most of the markings are hand painted to match the exact Sea King shown in a series of pictures from 1983.

@Michael: I'm very happy with my Elegoo Mars. For around 250EUR it delivers very nice detail! I did a lot of modeling and sculpting in Blender the last months. Have a look at those two projects:

Ed BatresI'm curious, why are there handrails on the turrets? When would the sailors use them? How do they reach them? I'm primarily an aircraft builder, but appreciate great work. Thanks. Great attention to detail. Pleasure to see the work you do.

Ingmar StöhrHi Ed, I'm not entirely sure, but most likely they would be used to secure a sailor with a rope when doing maintenance or some paint work. You find similar rails around the whole bridge, e.g. for cleaning windows or repairing something from the outside
