Album image #1
Starting with the motor....

Album image #2
Album image #3
I have since gone back, and removed the obvious mould seam. The distributor is in the wrong place, so has since been removed.....and lost to the carpet monster. I will need to make a replacement.

Album image #4
Working on the chassis and suspension.

Album image #5
Painting fictional colours....

Album image #6
Whilst the chassis parts set, body work can be progressed.

Album image #7
Some highlights as pre-shading, on body panels. Interior painting and detailing progressed in parallel.

Album image #8
Test fit with the fan belt and fan added, after seating the motor in the chassis mounts.

Album image #9
Album image #10
Some wear on the driver's and rear seats, then a general leather colour added.

Album image #11
The dashboard beckoned....

Album image #12
...so I had to respond. The instrument dials are only raised circles, so all details are free-hand. I'll add a gloss coat to each instrument, for shiny glass effect. I've re-touched the background paint on the dashboard since seeing the close-up 😉 That grab handle is going to bug me until I change it for bent wire!

Album image #13
Yes, both U pieces shattered whilst being removed from the sprue, and my repairs didn't go well. So, spare PE strips to the rescue!

Album image #14
Correct shape, so just need to cut to length.

Album image #15
Fitted, and ready for paint.

Album image #16
Radiator and pipework done. Yes, both wheel arch supports shattered too. One repaired, and one still to be done. Replacement distributor still to be made.

Album image #17
So, the grab handle has been replaced with copper wire. Much better than the dodgy repaired plastic...

Album image #18
Progress is slow, but heading in the right direction. Both front windshield frames shattered so are repaired already. Tiny door handles installed inside and out.

Album image #19
Bodywork painted.

Album image #20
Front grill with winter baffle chosen, as I'll also use the main canvas roof.

Album image #21
The engine bay space. The paint on the wings has a ridged texture, so I'll rub it down smooth and add a further coat more carefully.

Album image #22
Body dry fitted onto the chassis, so I can see how the engine looks. Is it worth seeing, or shall I close up the covers?

Album image #23
It's a very tight squeeze.... and the high tension lead is not perfectly positioned.

Album image #24
Main lead re-positioned, and so just the loose ends of the four cables to connect to the distributor. Then I'll add extra CA before trying to paint the cables.

Album image #25
Lots of fragile and small parts prepared, and some assemblies started too.

Album image #26
Some clear sprue stretched thinner, then a cut end heated til it formed a blob.

Album image #27
Two blobs for two headlamp bulbs.

Album image #28
Wiring painted.

Album image #29
I'll re-visit the rusty manifold before hiding everything under the bonnet.

Album image #30
I do like a good shovel 😉

Album image #31
Handrail for the rear seats added, in bent wire. The kit part had shattered into three....

Album image #32
Lot's of flash had to be removed, before assembly. One is a mirror and the other a spot light.

Album image #33
An experiment with the spare bonnet. Four colours for rust....

Album image #34
.... Plus an undercoat of grey, then the top coat. I'll let that dry before trying out something new.....

Album image #35
Without a bonnet....

Album image #36
....and with a barn find patina.

Album image #37
Album image #38
I'm tempted to use this on the next one 🙂

Album image #39
So, I managed to break the fine connection between the steering wheel and the column. To ensure the wheel is glued central to the column, I needed to form a sleeve from spare PE strip. The old glue nozzle is the ideal size to wrap around.

Album image #40
And there it is. Much easier to do, after heating the metal and letting it cool again

Album image #41
Sleeve glued to the wheel, and the tube was used to check it was central.

Album image #42
It worked! Steering wheel now safety installed.

Album image #43
Wing mirror and spot light are on brackets that also allow the (real) windscreen to hinge. On the model, it is simplified, but still used to position the brackets correctly. Unfortunately, I didn't quite install the windscreen perfectly....

Album image #44
I didn't fit the two rifles to the dashboard, as they would have clashed with the slope of the windscreen.

Album image #45
Album image #46
Album image #47
Album image #48
Lot's of fine details painted and some subtle highlights added.

Album image #49
For those with good eyesight, you may notice that the radiator is missing. It's a tight squeeze under the bonnet, so I chose to omit the radiator and fit the bonnet more comfortably. There are decals for tyre pressures to add above each wheel arch, but I'll leave them til today's glues and paints have matured.

Album image #50
I've left the rear handrail bare for now, but will paint it later. The tyres need mare attention, for more even 'dusty' appearance.

Album image #51
A little bit of rust on the exhaust...

Album image #52
I need to tidy the number plate of that strip of white...

Album image #53
The clear plastic edges of the headlights have been painted silver. They look better than bare plastic. I decided to leave off the hub caps, as I prefer to see the wheel nuts.

Album image #54
Hmmm....so the bonnet is not well aligned, so has been dis-assembled. Re-assembly to follow.

Album image #55
Rear handrail painted, so the copper wire is now covered.

Album image #56
Still enjoying the dashboard gauges. No decals, no dry-brushing. Just a steady hand 🙂

Album image #57
Spare wheel set deeper in the well..

Album image #58
And now declared finished 🙂

There's a long way to go on this one, Villers, Plenty of tiny door handles to keep away from the carpet monster 😉

Villiers de Vos
Very nice detailed work.

Many thanks, Villiers. Still lots to be done, but I surprised myself with the dashboard dials. It looks better than my previous efforts with decals!

Nice interior!

Many thanks, Doubtingmango. I've been working on the doors, and have to decide how open, or how closed the car will be. Lot's of options with this kit. I may have the bonnet half open, so the engine is on view....it all depends if I dare to try to add wiring to the spark plugs!

Go for it!

Well, I've made a start on the wiring. Bodywork also being progressed.

Looking good. 👍

Many thanks, Guy. I'm in awe at how others have taken on all the wiring and cables on a 1:35 motor cycle. These cable are all accessible, but it is just soo tricky! I'm going to lie down in a dark room now.

Many thanks, Doubtingmango. Lot's of tiny components still waiting, for adjustable wing mirrors, etc. Even smaller items for bonnet catches.

Very nice and organized.

It's the countdown to completion, Villiers. All tricky, fragile or tiny parts.....

Okay, so I have a problem to solve. Having mounted the bodywork onto the chassis, I noticed that the four wheels are not sitting evenly. There seems to be a twist in the set up on the chassis, so I have taken the body off again, and need to figure out how to straighten things up again.

How have I missed this??? Joining the party! Rust looks fabulous, Bruce!

I would like to suggest two methods: 1) Hairdryer and gently twist the chassis, or; 2) wedge in a thin shim on one side between the chassis itself and the leaf spring.
1 August 2023, 12:26
Doubtingmango
I can feel that rust flaking off onto my hands! Great effect!

Bruce Huxtable
Welcome, Robert. What else is there to do with a spare bonnet and grill 😉
1 August 2023, 15:13
Bruce Huxtable
Many thanks for your advice, Villiers. I'll try the second option. Two steps back, before things can move forward again. The fragile last parts will have to wait!

Bruce Huxtable
Many thanks, Doubtingmango. I think I surprised myself! 😉

The windscreen glass panes are a slightly loose fit in the frames, (with no rebates to fit into...), but a coat of dark grey inside the frames and on the edges of the glass has made the fit finger tight. White glue applied, and the glass fitted.

Final problems resolved, fine parts installed, decals added, and some last small details painted.

Many thanks for your 'likes', everyone. I hope you like the end results too?
6 August 2023, 16:46

You were right, Villiers. I needed to fit a small packer between the springs and chassis, and that did the trick 👍 Many thanks 🙂

Bruce Huxtable
Finished, unless I spot something in the piccies 😉

Many thanks, Villiers and Doubtingmango. There are lots of wheeled vehicles to combine with armour, DM. Have fun!

Many thanks for your 'likes', everyone. There are a few areas that I can see could be improved, so I'll take these lessons on to the next one 🙂

Album info

A Masterbox kit heavily discounted. The plastic is very brittle, so I'm having nightmares with fine parts shattering....
