Def. In and watching!

Maybe you can try this with the decals, seen in ytube that it works:
Mark Fit - Super Strong (Tamiya 87205, No)

87205

Other than that its maybe enough to replace the stencils, those were the most stressful to get to conform/unsilver from my experience. You could get the complete set with what was it? 100k little stickers? Wouldnt that be fun?😆

Welcome all, I will start on Jan 1st 🙂
Lex, I've been looking at it and would have to order from US, no EU shops seem to have it.
But as Daniel pointed out, stencils are the trick here... so there are Eduard stencils available, but to me Eduard is pretty much the same decal as Tamiya, difficult to persuade...

Daniel
Yeah, I guess with eduard stencils you might make it worse🙈
These seem to be really nice+available:
Phantom Airframe Data (Stencil Type) (AOA decals 48-013, 1:48)

You also have some nice sets from Hobbydecal. Dry transfers. Tons and tons of tiny stencils. Great fun

Not sure if there is an F-4B....

I've been playing with Tamiya decals and some softers on a testbench Mirage, must admit that so far MicroSet and Tamiya Super Strong perform pretty much the same.
I did notice however that Eduard Navy F-4B Decals are of better quality... thinner and more submissive. Might try the stencils too.

I find the Tamiya super strong can discolor paint. I haven't had this issue with micro set or sol

Daniel
🤔 so far no issues here (I use lacquer gloss before decals) Only very positive experiences so far with the stuff, much stronger than micro sol with the kitty hawk decals, really saved me in my current project

Officially starting it! Taken the box off the shelf 😄
Tomorrow I will dig my nippers in plastic 👍

Just dumping some data here... Shoehorn EW updates on the F-4B Navy Phantoms.
Although I am building mine as VF-51 CAG, I will have to build it according to Tamiya instructions as B option, the VF-111 Sundowners. This is because 3009 was already the post-shoehorn modded aircraft, only to be replaced in 1973 by the 0456 as CAG, which was a pre-shoehorn. And this is in the Tamiya option B.
Apart from more non-noticable antennae, the shoehorn mod introduced AN/ALQ-51/100 Forward Receive Antenna, which can be seen on the photo as the double chin.
Also visible modification to post-shoehorn will be RWR instrument in the cockpit, Quinta offers detailed instructions for all mods.

OK, anyone with better knowledge of Phantoms, please...
Seems that the bird 3009 was on a short visit at NAS Miramar in Nov 1971, where it was also repainted.
Instructions in Tamiya say that the Sundowner 3019 was also repainted at Miramar in 1972 and that stencils for this version should not be used.
Looking at the reference pic, I can spot some vague stencil, but not nearly as many as per instructions...

So the question is, what is overpainted and what not at such overhauls, I am sure someone was wondering this before...

Full stencils were only there for NAVY birds before repaint, after repaint most of the stencils were gone. Check individual aircraft pictures for accuracy.

Thanks tyu!
So, as I thought, side stencils will mostly be left out on the 3009 from 1971, must find some top and bottom references as well 🙂

Good luck sourcing those pics, I have been not able to find them. And if you do please tell me about them. I might need them for my build.

I would not call using Quinta decals as cheating, Sergej. No reason to feel ashamed, it looks great in the end, doesn't it? 😄
