This will be a longtime project for sure, but i plan to built exact these display scenery with the recovered Aircraft showed in the Box art before its crash in 1943.
What do you think? too ambitious?

How would you re-create the missing skin on the wings? Is it going to be half a millimeter of plastic, or would you want to thin the insides? I can at least imagine that, you would want to be very careful if using a powertool for sanding off plastic on the insides in that case.
1:72 scale seems perhaps too small, but ofc, other people that me have been making very nice models in that scale. I can't help but think that 1:72 is the wrong scale for super detailing.

Hm, maybe you could do this:
1) Drill large holes in the plastic wings. Maybe add some styrene structure inside the holes, before doing pt. 2 below.
2) Cover the whole wing with foil, that way you can mimick a thin metal skin I think.

In some Areas, where the missing patches are plenty, i plan to cut the whole part of and rebuilt it with styrene and foil. The outer wings are quiet complete and can be done with tools.

Sparebox (Ki.36 Ki.55 etc) should be no problem! Most of the gear etc of the engine will be scratchbuilt anyway.
Or this aftermarket product..
Hitachi GK2B/C Amakaze 21 (Engines & Things 72151, 1:72)
3d is also a possibility.

Great idea, Daniel! And I agree with Clifford here - you are the one who is destined to execute this.

An ambitious project but I think you can pull it off.
Besides you don't see a museum diorama with a damaged aircraft in the middle very often. 👍 Well, at least I did not.

Pulling up a seat on the sidelines, Daniel.
Once you pull this diorama together I'm sure the people at Air Crash Investigations will be in touch to offer you a job there.

Wow that looks really challenging. Taking a seat. How will you do the small (I assume complete) model of the aircraft on the table in pic 3? 3D print?

Well, well, very ambitious indeed. Especially in that scale. I like to mess around with small parts. But this is a whole step further.
Be brave and make our mouth water! 🙂

Don't always believe everything the press writes - the model can be completed with manageable effort.
So Daniel: go for it! 😉
