Monogram | No. 5823 | 1:48 | F-15C Eagle

Album image #1
2020/21: OOB build of the vintage 80s Monogram 1/48 kit.

Album image #2
Forcing fit and sorting out my terrible mating of forward fuselage to main body. To be fair, they didn't want to fit together very well as it's another oldie kit.

Album image #3
Correcting the subsequent mess I made. Excuses: the kit isn't that great here either 😉

Album image #4
Rear cockpit interior - painting detail.

Album image #5
Lots of freehand shading and general mottling with grey, white and black.

Album image #6
Ongoing work on cockpit.

Album image #7
Black lining of main contours and panel joins.

Album image #8
Dulling down and highlighting also.

Album image #9
Fiddling with grey depths on panel lines - I need better lighting in my garage!

Album image #10
Marking out the darker grey camouflage area (lightly) with pencil. I can't be arsed to mask it all up!

Album image #11
Freehand airbrushing the outline.

Album image #12
Filling in - I added depth in some areas by mixing with other greys to attempt to give a temperature fluctuated colour scheme on the grey - how successful it will be I don't know...

Album image #13
Dulled it all down again and blended the camo work.

Album image #14
Album image #15
I'm going to try something different with the underside.

Album image #16
I love streaking! May not be particularly realistic or accurate to real-life but in my opinion it gives an indication of speed. And remember there are no sunken panel lines, everything is raised, so this helps with adding depth also.

Album image #17
Armament and radar...

Album image #18
NMF painting.

Album image #19
Highlighting panels of NMF

Album image #20
Happier with NMF finish. Hand painting armaments. They're loosely based on reality.

Album image #21
Getting there...

Album image #24
Album image #25
Panel line washing - the lines on this vintage kit are raised. Which always poses issues.

Album image #27
There's flash on everything BTW!

Album image #28
Shown here with gloss coat for decaling and washes - prior to polish and subsequent matt coat.

Album image #29
Nearing the end stretch.

Album image #30
IN PROGRESS. UPDATED: 28/1/22...

Album image #31
Hand painting undercarriage, again (very) loosely based on reality.

Cheers @Arif hope you're well 🙂 Thanks for commenting. I'm a bit further along than shown here, but displaying my usual tardiness on sorting out imagery!

I think the issue with this kit is how old they are. You dont know how long it was stored prior to you getting your hands on it. And Lord only knows if it got hot enough to warp the parts. Last one I did the fuselage to body mating wasnt horrid. I mean it wasnt fantastic, but not as bad as this one seems.

Regardless, great job. 🙂

This was started b4 I joined , so I'm late to the party. These were always one of my faves since I was a kid , watching them fly out of RAF Alconbury, Cambridgeshire.

Loving the metal tones , ab fab. 👍🏻👍🏻

Thanks Maciej, Donald and David, it's very kind of you all to comment, appreciate your feedback 👍🙂 @Donald, agreed you're likely bang on. It was another bashed box find at a carboot sale. @David, lucky you! Largest I ever saw of these, was an f15 formation at Mildenhall, back in the 80s. It was impressive and loud!

Hi all 🙂 I've finally got around to taking 'reveal' pictures for many of my previous build albums. I shall be updating each and including a few build notes in the description too - especially on the bits I messed up!

Here is my version of the Monogram F-15 Eagle, completed way back in the depths of 2021. I guarantee when I build this again, I'll do a better job next time. I've learnt a lot more since this build. Especially about how to deal with older raised panel line kits, aged original decals, post and pre-shading and pin washing too.

Thanks to all who showed interest and liked, it's very much appreciated from such a talented lot as you guys 👍

Thanks Jennifer 🙂 You're very kind to comment and say such 👍 I love having loads of kits on the go at once. But I'm not so great at taking any 'finish line' pictures! Hahaha!

Keep going with that B-17, I check it out every time it pops up in the feed, looking good and nearing the finish line 👍

Nice job Neil. As I've gone on before, love the old Monogram kits. Loads of detail, but they make you work for it with poor fits and weird seam locations.

Neil
I'm with you John! I like 'em too - a lot! This was my first ever 1/48 Eagle build and I've learnt a lot since this one, especially about dealing with raised panel lines, poor fits and seams as you say. I massively enjoyed it nonetheless though mate 🙂 Thanks again and thanks to those who've liked also 🙂 👍

Amazing Eagle! It's always impressive what an expert can do with a really "basic" kit with poor fit. 👏

Neil
Blimey CaptGPF no one's ever referred to me as an expert! I definitely wouldn't say I'm that. But it's very kind of someone with your skills to even say such a thing mate 🙂 chuffed!

This was my first ever 1/48 F-15 build completed a couple of years ago and I learned a lot. Especially working with an old Monogram kit. So hopefully I'll do better justice to your kind comment next time. As I've got a few more Eagles in the stash mate 😁
