Vought F4U-1A Corsair VF-17 "Jolly Rogers"

Album image #1
The engine is quite detailed. Since you won't see much of this either, I have omitted further details such as ignition cables.

Album image #2
Some cockpit details. You will hardly see anything of this later.

Album image #3
The propeller is almost finished and is only attached to the model at the end.

Album image #4
The assembly of the fuselage and the wings is also complete.

Album image #5
On the underside, after preshading, I was able to spray the white paint. The gray-blue is still a little too dark for me and the post-shading a little too strong. I will probably lighten that up again.

Album image #6
Today I lightened up the underside. Much better I think.

Album image #7
The painting above is now also done.

Album image #8
Post-shading with a lightened and darkened shade.

Album image #9
The first layers of some weathering and chipping done after spraying a gloss coat with "Emsal Bodenglänzer".

Album image #10
Next step will be setting the decals. Then more weathering steps will follow.

Painted and weathered the landing gear parts. I added brake lines with a copper wire.

Album image #15
Last parts attached.

Album image #16
Weathering finished. I used several things: Tamiya Panel Line Color, chipping with Vallejo colors, Streaking Rust with Ammo by Mig, pigments with Tamiya Weathering Master und Revell Weathering Set, filters and grime with AK Weathering Pencils. Should be enough now.

Album image #17
Ready for final clear coat. Then attaching antennas and taking some final pictures.

Album image #18
So here are the final photos now.

For the antenna I used a hair of my daughter's hair brush. Painted black the diameter fits perfectly to the scale.

this is a great result! Is the Revell kit the one that has "some accuracy problems?"...I must say it doesn't look like that from your build!

Andy, this Revell kit was really without any issues. The moulding tool is from 2014, it's not an old one. I can recommend it and I think of buying 1 or 2 more for different versions.

Excellent! I've done the Italeri Korean one and thought it was pretty good too.

Album info

This is just a little test and practice kit. I like the Corsair design and the Revell kit is cheap to get (7€). The details are really great for a Revell kit. I was positively surprised. So let's see what I can do with it.
