Personal Interest: Just before I was born, members of the Iowa ANG 174th TFS deployed to Phu Cat AB to serve in the Vietnam War. For their service, the 174th TFS won the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with a designation of valor. Knowing that history made an impression on me as I watched their training missions over Nebraska as a child. The F-100 was the first supersonic fighter. It is surreal to me that in my lifetime I witnessed combat training with this vintage jet as well as the leading-edge combat jets of today.
Model Specifications: This model represents an F-100F of the 185th TFG in SEA camouflage and marked with a HE tail code, as it was at Phu Cat AB in 1968. The F-100s of the 174th TFS were painted identically through their retirement in 1977 but carried a HA tail code and ANG markings.
