Beautiful work!
I thought the teaser photo was a reference shot of a real aircraft.

Thanks a lot Gorby, I based my work on a picture of the real plane in 1958 during an exhibition in Belgium 😉

Phase 3 - Time for filling. PS. Yes, that's the Heller's canopy.

I would be tempted by the Yugoslav example... but of course it's your model! Taking a seat...

I am too 🙂 Having better decals, Heller kit and plans to buy HB set one day as well.

Taking a seat as well, having the Heller kit in my stash.

Łukasz, your fondness for old and difficult molds amazes me... Weren't there any Academy or Tamiya kits available? I'am a fan of you 😄
Following! (one more time 😛 )

Glad to read your comments Thomas & Cuajete. Unfortunately I have bad news - I inspected the kit and the canopy is missing 🙁
Wondering what to do now:
- use the Inplast set with recessed panel lines and sacrifice the Heller boxing, by stealing the canopy;
- use the Heller set with raised panel lines and leave the Inplast set for the Archive X.

Welcome Daniel 👍 Well, I decided to steal the canopy from Heller set and stick to Inplast sprues for their recessed lines (and sentiment!). Need to find a reasonable driver too.

Will Heller's canopy fit well into Inplast's?

You made me check it Señor 😄 Yes, it does indeed. Turns out it's a pirate copy, but a good one 😄

Having built one with my daughter, I say you are a hero to tackle this.

Watching!

Good choice my friend, the kit is really good for it's age and origin 🙂

Oh, my! I remember my excitement when I first saw (and bought 😉 ) this kit - do I remember well that it features thick self-sticking foil instead of "classic" decal?
27. August, 14:15
Łukasz Gliński
This one's got some sort of decals, but I know it used to be a lottery what's inside 😄

OK, so the LG wells detail on the kit may be difficult to spot - but what a jolly finish - golden dart with stars & stripes, I can imagine the show & the music when this does a pass! 👍 😉

Sid - on this build, did you first remove the chrome plating?
17. July, 22:56
Sid de Koning
Yes I did. And then used Alclads metallic paints.

Excellent paint scheme on this Thunderjet; the green tip tanks are an interesting touch. Republic sure did produce some cool aircraft back in the day.

I'd always wanted to do a non-metal; non-USAF machine and the Danish machine fit the bill. The tip tanks certainly make it standout out on the table. The Hi-decals sheet does provide the black decal that overlays the green however I chose to make a mask and paint it. I think it came out pretty well.

Painting was the way to go. Decals on those complex curves don't always work out. I have a couple of these Tamiya kits in the stash and I plan on building one as an USAF Thunderbird. Those Tamiya decals look dodgy and I may try spraying some of the markings. I have been looking for aftermarket decals with no luck.

@John G, I did use the Tamiya stencils on the kit and the instrument panel has the instrument decal as an overlay. Lashings of Mr Mark Softer et al makes it look fantastic. Finish it off with gloss glaze or similar for the glass instrument faces. They worked quite well.
