Kelly Wellington Two years I've been trying to tack one of these kits down. I finally prevailed.

Łukasz Gliński Congrats, I got mine some time ago also after few months of tracking

Kelly Wellington Thanks. I think I've bid on a dozen different kits. And lost. This one, nobody else bid and the price was decent. The kit is in nice shape, too. The box has been opened, but it's pristine beyond that.
25. August 2016 at 15:13:14
Guus You can do some nice things with that. I like the all white Ukrainian UN machines.
25. August 2016 at 17:54:18
Kelly Wellington I have a An-74 kit I'm going to do in arctic white. This, I had planned for a camo version of the maritime patrol, but have not yet decided Ukranian or Russian...or Soviet.

Erik Houghton Lovely looking aircraft. How's the kit itself?
19. December 2013 at 23:01:28
Mark Ree Not had time to fully inspected the bits as it only came today and I?m on a night shift. Reading the reviews it can be a bit rough and poorly fitting and the bits, I have seen look no different. The plan is possible AN-71 Madcap conversion, (hsfeatures.com/an71lk_1.htm) as I?m not really into civy planes.
19. December 2013 at 23:25:39
Glenn . Vic, A-Model did a An-71 version, the fuselarge is shorter and quite a bit different to the An-72 / An-74 versions plus it has a large APU? in the rear lower section where the ramp is. Lota work to convert it, good luck!
20. December 2013 at 01:58:21
Mark Ree I was look at Ken Duffy's (AKA Flankerman) An-71
flankerman.fsnet.co.uk/an-71_modl.htm
That gave me the notion, it won't be any time soon before I make a start.
I have just seen the beauty of your your vast hoard an noticed a Amodel AN-71 AWCS what is that kit like? I bet there are not many of them around.
20. December 2013 at 02:51:19
Glenn . Hi Vic, it is based on the same kit you have! But with a one piece fiberglass fuselage to replace the plastic one along with a fiberglass radome, the rest of the kit is the same and yes it's very expensive! had it for quite a few years now.

Kelly Wellington Say...Guus? Do you work with models of Soviet craft a lot? If so, or if you've worked with them in the past, what experience have you had with the Amodel stuff? Over here, the mid-sized to larger kits get prohibitively priced quickly...like the IL-12 is well over $100 (I'd have to hop over to Hobbyterra to check the asking price). Do you have recommendations on manufacturers?
24. July 2012 at 17:31:20
Guus Hi Kelly, I need to get back to you on that. Must dash !
What are you mainly interested in ? Airliners (Zvezda is very good), Helicopters (the Zvezda Mi-24 family is stunning). From Amodel I only have some smaller 1/72 kits like Yak-28PP and Yak-38. Quite nice but nothing spectacular (especially the transparencies and decals are poor.
For larger transports the Roden Antonov-12 and Amodel Antonov-26 /32 family are very tasty indeed !
Apart from that I have every Eduard 1/48 Russian jet in my stash.
ICM Models also do some very nice kits.
24. July 2012 at 17:46:39
Kelly Wellington I'm interested in transports, mainly. I have the Roden An-12, the Trumpeter An-2, and an old second-hand VEB Plastikart An-14 (which is missing an engine). I've been lusting after the Amodel An-26, An-32 and the smaller Ilyushin transports, IL-12, IL-18, and IL-20. All in 1:72. I'd also love to track down an An-28 or An-38. I'm not proficient enough at this point to even consider a vacuform....I'm fairly sure I'm going to have to forego several of them entirely....but I'm hovering upon the decision to obtain the Amodel An-26.
24. July 2012 at 18:25:33
Guus You will not regret getting the An-24 / 26 or -32. They are not for the absolute novice but they are very nice kits.
I would love an An-28 as well but they are only available in 1/144 I believe.
The Il-38 is on my wishlist as well but they are asking ridiculous prices for them.
25. July 2012 at 15:26:42
Kelly Wellington Oh, yeah....waaaay too much $$$. The 'Mary' maritime patrol craft is well past the $100 mark in these parts. I've got it on my wishlist, but I doubt if I'll ever expend that much for a kit. I think I'd be tempted to go for their Beriev Be-200 first (I caught sight of the first sub-$200 price listing just recently)...also waaaay too costly, but I still WANT it.

I think I've got a Planet 1:72 An-28 Bryza on my wishlist...but I think it is multi-media. I've got the Planet DC-5 on my list, too, but I've been watching the prices on that ease down with finding more outlets which carry it.
25. July 2012 at 15:41:01
Guus My next Russian buy is going to be the Amodel An-30. I saw a Ukrainian one at an airshow once, resplendent in its ugliness, and really want to build one.
I´m also waiting for a 1/48 Yak-28PP or any other glass nosed Yak 27/28.
25. July 2012 at 16:04:37
Kelly Wellington Thanks for the encouragement on the An-28.

"Resplendent in its ugliness"...Yeah, that's why it got avoided on my lists; I don't like it. I'd pick up an An-8 before that, and it's just a smaller version of the An-12.

I'm basically down to a lot of really expensive kits. Like, I've wanted the Mach2 Martin Mariner and their Consolidated Coronado kits...both usually hovering at the $90 mark each. Then, there are a few Japanese kits and a couple of jets....I see that Airfix is now pushing a 'Falklands duo' of A-4A Skyhawks in Argentinian livery and the Hawker Harrier jump jet in Royal Navy livery. I must admit that I was tempted. Close ground support is one of my secondary types and they both fit very well it the category...indeed, most commentators refer to them a primarily attack craft.

What I really need is a workspace. I have my UC-45 Expeditor open and I'm ready to work on it.
25. July 2012 at 18:05:01
Kelly Wellington Oops...typo...thanks for the encouragement on the An-26.
