Hi Norman,
Will daraus eine Naturmetallene "M" Version bauen.
Bleibe hier mal dran

Hi Norman,
the Eduard MiG is one of the best models that I´ve ever seen! Must be a pleasure to built!!
On picture 5 we can see a paint tin! What`s the brand??
5 November 2012, 21:46
Philip De Keyser
Very nice result Norman, looks really great, love the camo sheme, greetz Phil

Thanky you mates, @Dirk Akan 73006 cockpit green for MiG.

@Steffen eine M in NMF kommt gut, bin gespannt.

Oliver Peissl
Hallo Norman,
bisher sieht Deine MiG schonmal sehr gut aus!
Freue mich auf die weiteren Bilder!
6 November 2012, 07:12
Holger Kranich

6 November 2012, 08:02
Michel Huijghe
Great looking Mig-21. Where did you bought the Akan paint?
6 November 2012, 08:07
Norman Gruss
@Michel Huijghe please look at dukmodell.de or Linden Hill Imports in the USA
6 November 2012, 08:24
Norman Gruss
6 November 2012, 08:28
Steve Wilson
Aaaahhhh!!! I see you've bought a little something for the weekend😢
6 November 2012, 08:32
Steve Wilson
These Eduard really look good...🙂
6 November 2012, 08:33
Holger Kranich
Jep Steve, you are right! The often i look at it, the more i want it! I see a new star on my wishlist...
6 November 2012, 08:37
Norman Gruss
6 November 2012, 21:26
Michel Huijghe
Guys is it possible to say it in English please and not in German?
Not that I can't understand it but for other fellow modelers which also are following the build. Thanks. 🙂
7 November 2012, 07:55
Steve Wilson
7 November 2012, 08:26
Holger Kranich
Not bad, Steve, not bad!

I´m a lazy guy, too. But if i dont understand something, i use the google translator. Works very fine for me. But Michel is right, its more fair to write in english for the others who dont speak german. When you are limited in vocabulary, its too tempting to write in the mothertongue...
7 November 2012, 08:46
Steve Wilson

For those who want it in English:

But not Everyone speaks English either Holger, so what about them??? As you say, I also use Google Translate for languages I don't understand. I say each to there own...
7 November 2012, 08:56
Steve Wilson
I got my there/their mixed up, sorry!!! Should say:

Ich sage jeweils ihre eigenen ... I say each to their own...
7 November 2012, 09:05
Norman Gruss
@Christian do you know something about el-presidente-decals ? I found a decalsheet in 1/72 for cuban MiG's for example.
7 November 2012, 09:36
Michel Huijghe
El-Presidente decals? Never heard about it but after seeing that they released a Mig-17 decalsheet I love that. 🙂
7 November 2012, 10:14
Christian Lehmann
I heard and read about them but when I did my research it seemed that they were not available ( sold out, out of production).
7 November 2012, 11:52
Norman Gruss
So mates, new picture update, some work the Alclad.
8 November 2012, 21:04
Norman Gruss
After seven hours of pain, the decals are on the MiG-21
11 November 2012, 15:55
Holger Kranich
That was hard work, ha?😢
11 November 2012, 16:11
Oliver Peissl
I feel with you because I did the same painfull job on my MiG.
But when its done you´re very proud about that.
Looks really nice!
12 November 2012, 06:44
Luc B
looks promising!

Norman Gruss
Thx mates

A very impressive weekends' work Norman. I will be building the Bis weekend version early next year. I wouldn't normally have bought it but it was a prize at a local competition and I'm sort of expected to build it for next years Model Build Challenge which is the MiG 21. I bought the No2 set of Afterburner Decals for the MiG21 and the Indian version looks very colourful. Are the stencils on MiGs always in Russian no matter which country operates them? What was the brand of paint you used for the interior? I bought a pot of W.E.M. Russian Interior Green. Haven't tried it yet though. Looking forward to the finished article.
12 November 2012, 10:59
Steffen Tittmann
Hi John, i have colors, H25 Gunze and H46 were mixed 50-50 to get the Russian cockpit color.
12 November 2012, 12:03
mahyar bahrampoor
is a good work well done
12 November 2012, 12:28
Norman Gruss
Hi John, I have from AKAN 73006 the cockpit green. Steffen has an alternative color mix for the cockpit with Gunze colors.
12 November 2012, 13:19
Michel Huijghe
Indeed. Steffen is right.
The mix is exact.
12 November 2012, 19:35
Steffen Tittmann
@ Michel,
thanks.
12 November 2012, 21:19
John Coverley
Thanks mates for the advice on the interior colour. I've got about 40 shades of green but not that one!
14 November 2012, 13:02
Steffen Tittmann
Hi,.Yes it is but mostly so. You don't have what you need in the surgery.
14 November 2012, 14:01

Hi Norman - just starting one these (Academy MF) - they should include your photo journal with the kit instructions - brilliant - a masterclass which will help Tremendously - thanks

Erik Leijdens
What a beautiful Mig Norman! Great eye for detail. And a very clean build👍

Wow that looks awsome!!
16 November 2014, 13:34

Wow is all I can think of saying.. I mean its a step by step on how to build this.. and for it to look so good.

Es-haq Khosravi
Great job!
16 November 2014, 15:25

Holger Kranich
Great build, Norman! What a nice step by step guidance!
17 November 2014, 06:32
Matthias Weiss
Just had a look at your other albums, Norman. I´m really impressed by your work! 🙂
How can you spray such fine camo schemes? Some of your models are made without masking, right?

Damn it, I want to build airplanes from now on but my stash is full of tanks...
17 November 2014, 08:01
Steve Wilson
...
Excellent Norman, sheer excellence... Great build!!!
If I built Aircraft your post is very tutorial.
But! the techniques and methods you use, I too can use in my builds so this is very useful for me too...👍
17 November 2014, 08:04
Matthias Weiss
I simply go with the old Chinese tradition of copying from the masters.... 🙂 🙂

In this case it´s you, sorry for that in advance. 😛
17 November 2014, 08:22
Andrew Eadon
Hi Norman, looking through the build and paint photos the attention to detail with both paint and decals is extraordinary! Awesome work Norman.
17 November 2014, 08:36
Norman Gruss
Okay, long list....

@Michael Woodhouse: one from Academy, nice but to much work for a MiG-21, good look, I will follow your build.

@Erik Leijdens: Thank you 🙂

@Marko: Thank you 🙂

@Matthias Weiss: Thank you 🙂

@Augie: Thank you 🙂

@Es-haq Khosravi: 🙂

@Kerry COX: Thank you 🙂

@Matthias Weiss: I own a collection of serveral airbrush: H&S Evo 2in1, Infinty and Iwata HP-C plus, thin Gunze or Tamiya paint sprayed by around 20 PSI from the compressor. Paintwork on the upside of the wing, I used floating masks, fuselage will be free hand with my H&S Infinty. @stash, my stash is to big with planes and tanks too.

@Steve Wilson: Thank you, and I'm glad I could help with my pictures.

@Matthias Weiss: Nice tradition, but I'm not a master, I'm a master of collecting model kits 😉

@Andrew Eadon: Thank you 🙂
17 November 2014, 16:10
Lucian Millo
Superb!Great build, Norman!
17 November 2014, 17:10
Matthias Weiss
Hi Norman,

another question: I read about the problems of matching the interior color of the MiG with the Eduard PE-parts for the cockpit. Which paint did you use on this bird? How was the color match?

Oh and there's one more: At one picture you show the scratching of 2 elliptical panel lines on the downside. You are using a Eduard mask for it. Which article is that and what are these panel lines for?
17 November 2014, 22:06
Soeren R.
Looks really really awesom!! I still hope for a Mig-21 of Eduard in 1/72 that I can also build this great plane😉 Ok in between I will build the Fujimi kits 😛
17 November 2014, 22:28
Norman Gruss
@Lucian: Thank you

@Matthias Weiss: Yes, the color for the cockpit with PE-parts is a problem. In my case, I used the paint from Akan "cockpit green for MiG-XX", Eduard have some Gunze mixes for the interior color eg. "60% sky blue C34 + 20% bright green C66 + 20% cobalt blue C80" or "50/50 sky blue + bright green" well, it's a try and error mix for right color.

The template for the panel lines is in the MiG-21MF Profi Pack included, for the Weekend Edition you will get a decal for this area.

@Soeren, take the 1/144 scale MiG-21 from Eduard, very nice this little kit.
18 November 2014, 08:31
Soeren R.
No not 1/144... I only build 1/72 and this won't change maybe bigger but definitely not smaller 😛
18 November 2014, 08:44
Ulf Petersen
Hi Norman, that one looks awesome! 👍
Are you showing up on MBSTHH Friday 28th? I would like to have a closer look on your MiG.
18 November 2014, 10:34
Matthias Weiss
Thx. Norman. So if someone wants to build MiGs he should have these 3 paints at least for the cockpit.
Well I will give that a try in the future... 🙂
18 November 2014, 23:29
Matthias Weiss
One more question Norman. Sorry there are many of them....
You used Alklad 2 products which truely look great. I have read that there is special primer needed before these Alklad lacquers can be used. And this primer need to be polished before applying the final Alklad coat. Would you mind to let me know how you use them? Anything you need to take care when using them?
19 November 2014, 13:41
Norman Gruss
Primer for Alclad, normal metal color like Alu, Dullalu etc. need a normal primer like Mr.Surfacer 1000 oder Tamiya, for high shine colors like polished Alu or Chrome you will need a gloss black base primer, the best is Alclad own product, this is a lacquer based primer or you take a acrylic gloss black, but the result is not so good as with the lacquer based primer. One trick for a high shine surface -> use Tamiya X-22 clear or another clear as a primer, it works. More instruction for Alclad can you find at alclad2.com with all how to's for the Alclad 2 color range.

More questions? 🙂
19 November 2014, 15:40
MICHAEL WOODHOUSE
Hi again - think I stirred up a bit more interest on this build - you seem to have alot more deserved fans - anyway - yes you right about Academy - have just got Eduards Weekend Build Mig-21PFM and its very nice compared to that one - oh well - two are better that one!
19 November 2014, 19:34
Matthias Weiss
Thank you Norman, no more questions so far. 🙂
